Woohoo, official off-topic thread!

Indeed, normally I have problems with authority[not here specificly, just in general.], but right now I feel listened to. :]

BT now I would like to point out you are contradicting yourself. Your definition of fanboy is simply one who does not argue who would win, but simply states their decision without debating it. Killer debates his opinion, be it logical or not, this cannot be denied, by that he should not be a fanboy in your eyes.

Being a fanboy is nothing to do with being illogical, some of them often are, but majorly the "idiotic" fanboy that Cowgirl mentioned, the sort you mention Phenomenol as.

Although most of what you say here is opinion, in the end its an opinon on whos odds, although in the end,its impossible to claim someone a fanboy on a forum unless they either admit it, or claim their character the winnner regardless of the odds, e.g:

I think its obvious its a joke (....it was was it not?) but if you were serious, this is the sort of typical true fanboy argument, if you were serious.

I am not a fanboy, i simply debate for Kain against odds when I can continue to debate, and I always often do, nobody can defeat most of my arguments and their only arguments against mine are usually their opinions, not actual arguments, after that, calling me a fanboy or impossibly bias is the only way people can imagine a defeat against me. They cannot defeat me in an argument and so result in calling me a fanboy or impossible to debate with, this is shown as wrong, because people have debated with me before, sometimes successfully.

K1ll3r is a fairly recent fanboy, looking through the Sarg/Archimonde thread he makes things up, Fascist crusader and to a lesser degree Terry are as well, they will continue to claim their favoured characters the winner regardless of the rest of the debate, for example K1ll3r is sitting in the Sephiroth VS thread claiming hes going to slice through all these high powered characters, hes not interested in what they can do, what they have done.....hes just claiming Sephiroth can do something even when hes done nothing close, thats fanboyism.

1. Phenomenol is an extreme case. Being a fanboy by vs. forum terms is all about being illogical. If they are not applying logic in a vs. debate so that their own character can become victorious, then they are being fanboyish. However, almost all of us have said something fanboyish, it is only when we continually do so that we are labeled an actual fanboy.

2. Wrong. Fanboys usually do not admit that they are being a fanboy. They believe the illogical crap they post. Claiming their character is a winner regardless of the odds is an extreme case like Phenomenol, you are taking the extreme as the only usage of the word. Please stop.

3. Of course it was a joke. And no, it is not. That is not an argument at all. That is a single statement. You are attempting to make people believe that all true fanboys post like that so that you will not be referred to as such. Please stop.

4. Yes, you really are. And this is what I was referring to when I referenced South Park, you see BT I know that you actually believe that your arguments are perfectly logical and that you are victorious in those debates and not a fanboy, but that is because you are protecting your own ego and are a fanboy. People have debated you before, yeah, when there was literally no hope of Kain(or some other character) winning, and by no hope I do not mean that there is no realistic way your character can win, you argue against odds like that all the time, I mean that there was no piece of hyperbole you could exploit and nothing you could nitpick.

5. Fascist is a troll. He does not believe what he types, he is doing it to annoy people. He is a fairly intelligent individual outside of the forum, I have spoken to him via PM. I have always considered Terry a fanboy, although he is not as bad as he used to be. Cannot comment on Killer. Don't know.

As for doing something even though he has done nothing close, funny, you claim things like that quite often and do not even realise it.

Hey does anyone agree that the search function sucks?

No, because it doesn't.

Also, I agree with GK.

haermm

I love you Lana.

And you too GK.

Hell, I love this place, I really do.

Oh, and look, Nemesis, the Brutal Legends thread.

Which I found my first try.

You're awesome Lana.

Fo rell.

I keep telling her that.

😄

oh... so thats how you use the search. ive been telling it to search by title but that doesnt work you have to search by thread name. @.@

it seems obvious after the fact. ermm

So this is basically; When is this insult appropriate to use. Very nice. I love how the moderators are contributing to this. Fun times.

(Didn't think you were allow to insult/antagonise people here. Or maybe rules like that change.)

Here's how i see it. People are going to use that word when you get frustrated how detailed a fellow debater might be able to take things. Or when someone does not provide adequate reasoning for their opinion, in YOUR opinion. Or maybe when they see a mechanic working differently to how you see it which results in another outcome that to you seems stupid/illogical. Situations when you are beginning to take the debate seriously because your blood starts pumping when you process what they are writing. Or, as i prefer to call it, the point in the debate you need a slap and a time out.

So, to simplify, in my opinion, which i don't expect to be yours (don't worry.) A fanboy is someone who to you is typically a know-it-all jackass on character X and overestimates them to the point you just want to strangle them until it's not funny anymore.

/Sign out

because someone knows a lot about a character to the point of specifics that would make them a fanboy in your opinion?

How did you find it on your first try? I clicked search, typed in Brutal Legend, and all I got was one page and none of them had the thread in it. It only showed threads that had either the word brutal or legend posted in them.

False, that was my opinion of what a fanboy would act on a forum, problem is I was wrong because I was thinking logically from my own point of view, If i was a fanboy I wouldnt bother debating simply because I would think ime right anyway and wouldnt bother wasting time when I already have my own opinion and already believe that is the only possible opinion, that my character would win, ofcourse a fanboy is not logical so they would debate anyway.

My defintion of a fanboy is fairly close ot the two things I quoted in your post, love and devotion to the character but also the idea that that character can never lose, no matter what.

1. No its not at all, anyone can be illogical, they dont have to be a fanboy. Your labelling a few things and adding them together such as not being logical, being bias, etc, people can be all these things and not even be a fan so its not a defintion. Its your opinion....

2. Now your assuming what the fanboy believes, for all you know they could realise they are wrong but simply do not admit it because of their love for the characer....

3. Its a single statement that a fanboy would use, certainly if you think of it logically, considering a fanboy is not necesserily logical then that could easily be a fanboy statement. And I cannot be a fanboy by any of the defintions, certainly not even by your own, and definatley not by the real defintion on Webster or Urban.

4. Why the hell would I protect my ego? thats a stupid thing to state considering only a small number of people on this forum are on my side so I wouldnt care. All my arguments are logical, as I said, people can only lie or label me to try and attempt to get out of the debate without having to agree that ive punished their argument into the ground, for example:

Here, I'll end the discussion.

Fanboy = Burning thought.

He had to end the discussion, that much was true about this statement, he knew id curbed his argument and couldnt argue anymore, he goofed with his statement and so he had to try and follow the majority of the forum and commit a what is it, an ad hominem fallacy, most people who debate against me finish their arguments in the end with one of those, especially you, mainly thats their only argument in the end. How can you possibly claim anyone else other than I as the winner of an argument if my opponent has to do that...

So your admitting that I do actually admit Kain loses to various others? so obviously ime not "obsessed" with kain to the degree I would always:

refusing to believe that they can lose

So in the end, your argument is pretty baseless rubbish, your just assuming someone a fanboy just because they dont see the debate going the way you think it will and furthermore the majority feel half of which are not even part of the debate, hell theres usually one person in a debate against me, if not 2, others just appear saying "BT is fanboyz so his opposition are most correctz!" which is what you rely on in most debates, including this one. Also who dermines the odds? who determines when a supposed fanboy is debating against "the odds", for all you know the "fanboys" opposition could all be fanboys of the character hs debating against or simply idiots who dont/cant debate and have zero knowledge on the subject matter anyway or a personal vendetta

Hardly. I didn't consider it an insult at all, merely a statement of fact. I ceased debating you long before that post, when I realized that, as Nemebro said, you truly do believe you're right. Against conviction like that, there's no point in even attempting to argue for true logic's sake.

Everyone believes their right when making a statement unless their joking and it was an obvious insult, that is the only use of the word, it was at least antagonistic regardless of if you meant it as an insult.
