Riot mode is like a steroids rush. Iori gets all powered up but it's also hurting him(coughing up blood). The longer he stays in riot mode, the more harm he does to himself. He's crazy, but he's not as mindless as some may think though. He chose to go after Orochi instead of Kyo while in riot. Ash also had stolen power that Orochi is weak against when he took advantage of R.(Orochi)Iori IIRC. Ash might indeed be quite powerful, but he seemed very careful not to take on Iori in a "fair one". That's a good way to wind up in traction(if the stupid ass time limit doesn't save you)

oh and there are other things i've found out, besides KLantis has most of the tournament info all wrong. basically Terry's team has not been making it to the finals every year. in fact about the only tourny they made it to the finals was in KoF94.
koF95, Iori didn't really fight kyo on purpose cuz he wanted to see how well Kyo fairs against rugal and from there on determine if he's worth his time (Rugal>Iori my @$$). Kyo literally got lucky there.
KoF96 the finals was Kyo's team vs Iori's team and the fight wasn't a draw. Kagura interrupted the fight and reminded them that they shouldn't be fighting but be comrades like 1800 years ago against the orochi that arrives (in-game she does more or less the same thing). when iori didn't bother listening and insisted on fighting kyo, kagura took kyo and his team and disappeared into thin air...only for Geonitz to whoop them all later. its was mature and vice who told iori what goenitz was scheming and that is when Iori jumped in. that is why Geonitz calls Vice and mature "traitors" even in the game. if i remember correct he even says something like "so, it was you who told him" but i can't be too sure. need to check that out again.
KoF97 the final again was between Iori and Kyo's team. AGAIN it was cutshort because of Iori entering riot mode. remember even in-game against kyo's team (and well, all others actually) Iori says "so we finally meet, Kyo kusanagi" and is about ot fight but Orochi makes him go riot.
so much of kyo and iori being equal. stupid KLantis makes up too much crap when it comes to the tourny details. 😠

Yeah, but there could be a slight chance, due to his father and cousin having once going riot (source, KoF Kyo RPG game).
