Because it's more realistic. it also helps you bond with the characters more, though some people are hard to relate with, Chouji for example.
But there is no anime I have ever watched besides Naruto that I've actually cared what happens to the characters. DBZ was ridiculous because you knew that no matter what happened, they could come back. And no one outside of the three main characters really did anything aside from get there asses kicked anyway. Krillin and Piccalo died what, every saga?

Yeah, it may be that way for YOU and other Naruto fans, but personally, at least half of the characters annoy me, and I don't care about any of them at all. Showing their pasts in detail certainly doesn't help me feel any bonds to them. It only makes me bored, especially since other anime have done a much better job at constructing character's pasts, such as Rurouni Kenshin, Fullmetal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop, and various others, without including their whole life story in the process, lol 😂 . In order for me to bond with a character though, they need tohave understandable motives, and a likeable personality, and they ususally have something about them that I can admire or relate to (of course, I don't see this in DBZ either, but its not so much about the characters with DBZ anyways).
Realisitc you say? Dude, their both shounen, neither of them are realistic in the least bit. I seriously doubt that Ninjas wore orange jump suits, and had blonde spikey hair, back in their day 😛 . And I doubt taht you would see one coming out and casting crazy ass magical jutsus and the like. At least not these days 🙄 . I mean, I have no problem with people liking the show, but I definitely don't see in it what you or other fans see in it. To me, Naruto is just an average anime, with an average plot, and not so much originality to it. DBZ at least had some originality to it, back in its day.
Originally posted by ensatsu-kenlol thats funny considering how realistic dbz is I would say Naruto is that little bit more 'realistic', however realistic an anime can be. Naruto is as original as db if not more so, the story is more compelling and interesting, the background history and whole mythos of Naruto is just really great and of course the animation / fight scenes are more entertaining. The English dub of Naruto is just horrible and completely ruins the show, I would never have been interested in Naruto if all I had access to was the English dubs, it just seems so kid orientated and just god damn annoying.

Well, I agree with you that the Naruto dub is bad, but its not like the subbed version is much more "mature." As for it being a compelling story, I only consider it average, as its basically just the same good guys vs. bad guys action shounen formula, and I have trouble relating to any of the characters. I have seen better animation, and there are only a handful of fights that I have truly found to be entertaining in the series. Naruto also rips off a few ideas from Hunter X Hunter, which most people don't seem to notice, and I don't really consider that to be original, and definitely not as original as DB back in its day. Its not like I'm praising DBZ for having something so extraordinary about it, but I do prefer it over Naruto, which I still actually read the manga for, but which I find to be pretty boring as of the current chapters.
I have personally found much more compelling stories in the Rurouni Kenshin manga, Death Note, Hunter X Hunter, FMA, FMP, and various other anime. But, not matter how hard I try to look for it in Naruto, I just can't get that same awesoem vibe out of it that I get out of my most favorite anime series.
i started loving dragonball z after this episode

LOL if you would've asked me BEFORE Naruto Part 2 i would've def said Naruto...but now, no way. Kishi destroyed naruto with Boring fights, No-jutsu Naruto, Rape of Akatsuki , ANOTHER Doujutsu Master Bloodline which REALLY pisses me off...he should've called the show "Sharingan"..because Naruto is an idiot and all we hear is how "great" the sharingan is. Give me NORMAL human battle with tons of jutsus anytime (like oro vs sandaime..still the best battle in naruto ).
Anywayz, now DBZ..i guess it has an emotional meaning for me as i was brought up with it (in the 80's,begin 90's..watching club dorothée ..with tons of other great shows like saint seiya,etc.). I guess i'm an Dbz fanboy,..sure i can badmouth it but i will always love it for too MANYreasons..from Piccolo saving Gohan to Piccolo saving Gohan etc...
So go DBZ! (although i'm gonna be seriously disappointed in the live action movie....spike as piccolo..lmao)
Naruto actually has plot, character development, and humor.
So it pwnz draonall z hard.
Not to meation he protagonists are not ridicously stong compared to the villains. When people die, they stay dead, and thier village is in shambles.
My only pet peeve with narutois why are mere genin able to go toe to toe with Orochimaru's sound five?
Those guys are suppose to be like his elite fighting force and friggin gennin are evenly matched with them. Either everybody in the leaf village is on ninja sterois or Orochimaru has some crappy minions.
