Early reviews are not positive at all.
That makes three straight times Marvel hasn't been able to make a good Punisher film - three strikes and out?Maybe the big screen isn't for him. Instead, maybe it should be a series on HBO or Showtime.
I never trust reviews...
I'll know exactly what this film will do in a few days

Of course critics will hate this movie. It's a movie that focuses exclusively on violence and nothing but... Frank's a pretty simple dude. There are bad people out there, those people need to die."Simplicity" is a bad thing in the eye of a reviewer.
I think if the film was being made by Martin Scorsese or John Woo in his prime, the films would have more depth to them. But they never have an A-lister making these.
Garth Ennis deserves credit for bringing the character back to prominence, but the past two films have been based on his work; maybe they don't translate well. Frank's become a bit too psycho under him.
The early days of his solo book, being written by people like Mike Baron & Chuck Dixon, he would do more than just blow people away in disgusting ways. He took vacations to 'get away from the war' once in a while; he even sometimes took confession in the church (remembering how was once in the seminary). He was less of a pariah than now, and had working relationships with Spider Man, Moon Knight & Luke Cage. Things were antagonistic with Daredevil, but they tolerated each other. He even had some female companionship on occasion. Now, he's become just a serial killer of criminals & nothing else.
The negative reviews generally tend to slide towards the graphic nature of the movie more so than any thing else. Ebert, for instance, praised just about every thing about the film except for the gore, which seems to be the only thing that kept him from giving it a good rating.
This same violence, though, is what most other people would enjoy to see in an action flick. The action scenes essentially play out like a more brutal version of Shoot 'Em Up and the story feels like something straight out of Garth Ennis's run.
In other words, go see it. Now.
