Unless he stop shooting at people and started giving them flowers then I would say he's completely different.

I enjoyed The Punisher (2004) with Jane and Travolta.

It is a good action movie, just not a good Punisher movie thats all.

It was as good as a Punisher movie is going to get, really. I think without Travolta it would have been better. Jane was very good, and the party massacre scene was shot really well.

You Krispy Cream mother fckers.....

😐 🙁

haha this review made me laugh.

No disrespect to Thomas Jane, but I never bought him as the Punisher. Stevenson on the other hand - never doubted him as the character for a second.

Oh, and the beat-down the two main baddies get at the end are among the most satisfying “bad guy finally gets what’s coming to him” scenes I’ve seen in a film in recent memory.

Heres another good review.

Because of Punisher: War Zone opening, I finally sat down last night & watched the Thomas Jane-John Travolta version - I waited this long because early reviews put me off, saying it was hardly better than the Dolph Lundgren version from 1989.
With lowered expectations, I have to say it was alright, making the most of a limited budget. The shifts in tone were something, from serious to cartoony (the fight with the Russian; true to the comic) to weird to ludicrous. Still, it was better than Daredevil.
I like Ray Stevenson. I'll eventually go see it with altered expectations, like one of the above reviews says.

You Tim Horton mother fcker....

💃

Hmmm...your reviews are not very promising. Man, how come they f Punisher up so bad? Seems like an easy comic 2 adapt 2 the big screen.

Those werent bad reviews. I think one of them gave the movie 7/10. They both said it depends on what you want. If you are looking for a violent action movie then its great, if you are looking for a deep and meaningful plot with shakespearian acting then it fails.

Its like a Terminator movie. People watch The Terminator for special effects and chase signs with explosions, the plot is simple (and some of the acting) but nobody gives a shit because they enjoy the movie for the action.

Yet the Terminator movies - the James Cameron ones - were widely acclaimed by the critics. The question is, what is the Punisher series missing?

Maybe a true A-list Director could find it. To think of movies involving police, criminals, points of honour & nihilism, I think of Michael Mann. Films like Thief, Heat, Miami Vice, and the upcoming Public Enemies - he would know how to do this series correctly.
The only other film series that have any parallels to the Punisher are the old Death Wish series with Charles Bronson, and the James Bond series( think Bond at his most brutal & unforgiving.)

A lot of people here seem to be basing their opinion on the movie solely off of what they hear from written reviews rather that seeing it for themselves. You'll find that the opinions of the average movie-goers who saw the film differ greatly from those of professional critics.

I highly recommend checking this movie out. It' seriously like watching an Ennis comic in action and hopefully it'll develop a big-enough fanbase that will lead to the development of a sequel.

I have to watch it again and I am going to buy it when it comes out on DVD. This movie has to be seen with a open mind and not one filled up with reviews or else it will be crap.

True and the fact that movie reviewers dont follow comic books enough, they just base thier opinion on the movie parts.

And the music/soundtrack sucks.

I thought Stevenson made for a great Punisher and overall the movie is good. Some of the action was poorly edited and poorly planned. I also feel that jigsaw felt out of place. However, my biggest complaint was the action. A lot of it was shot and edited so poorly, i felt like i was watching a bad movie from the 80's a few times. The movie does do a lot right though. We don't have to explore Castle's character only to realize that he is a one dimensional character. I don't think this is better than the last punisher movie but it comes damn close, at times.
