Mixed Genre & Comic Tier Reference Guide

Yeah, there are two threads discussing DBZ vs Comics speed in the Anime Forum (that I know of), I don't see why the tier thread should be swamped with it. If anything we should get a Mixed Genre discussion thread and stop swamping this one.

I support this idea. Or just a Carver pen.

I don't know about that. Whether you agree with Carver or not he has the right to voice his opinion. He hasn't insulted anyone, and by and large, his tone has been civil, albeit persistent, even in the face of some pretty harsh and frank rebuttals on the part of others.

At this point it's been firmly established that the tier placements Carver is advocating for the DBZ characters have more than enough opposition so that they will not stand, so we can either decide collectively on a tier placement that is democratically elected for them, or drop the subject altogether and address it when things settle down.

Cooler heads need to prevail for this exercise to work. That's the bottom line.

Theres always the ignore option, it works great for members like Cav. This way, you guys dont have to look at his posts.

I agree that there should be discussion and everyone has a say on the thread, but if we consider the precedent of the Comic tier thread, you'll see that certain discussions were stopped and kept to a minimum. This is because this thread is for placements, agreements and give general ideas for powerlevels, not openly discussing abilities and certain characters matchups. I believe Carver has been open and a good sport, I just don't believe this is the place to hold that particular conversation.

The length of the discussion make it actually harder to vote, see placements and listen to suggestions. It should be kept to the minimum.

Alright back to noms and stuff I'd like to make the case for Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden from the Dresden Files for Low Meta.

Basic Magical Capabilities:

-He's a walking EMP. According to him any kind of technology beyond that which existed prior to the 1950s (computers, cell-phones, digital cameras, most modern automatic weapons, etc) has a tendency to fail in his presence. He claims to be able to kill a photo-copier at thirty paces merely by presence alone. In terms of combat if you try and kill him at close range with any sort of sophisticated hardware you better make the first shot count (assuming if it doesn't jam right off the bat) because the gun will jam or misfire.

-He's a decently skilled combat wizard with his usual standard equipment being an ash-wood stave (for parrying magical attacks and such), a blasting rod (for focusing his destructive evocations, usually fire spells), and a shield bracelet. Having only read the first three books of eleven I've so far seen this bracelet stand up to the combined gunfire of several automatic weapons at once without breaking.

-His most common spells are wind spells which in practical terms act like TK. With this TK he's shut doors, opened doors, pulled a "force-grab" on his equipment (ala a Jedi summoning his lightsaber), and tossed people around like ragdolls.

-He can create portals in and out of the magical realm known as the Nevernever.

-By making eye contact he can pull people into a Soulgaze wherein his soul is laid bare to the other person and vice versa. It's a bit like mind reading except much less focused and much deeper.

-Has a (metaphorical, not literal) Third Eye which he can open or close at will. In this mode of vision he sees people for what they truly are and can see magical forces and beings which would otherwise be hidden. He rarely uses it because once seen things in the Third Sight cannot be unseen and most of the time what you see with your third eye is horrific.

-If he knows a magical being's true name he can summon them with the aid of a magic circle or simply bind them to his will.

Destructive power:

-When bloodlusted he can be quite a force. In the third book he all but destroyed a huge mansion with a single fire spell. Considering that he was greatly weakened at that point (probably only at 25% power) it says something about his raw power output when backed into a corner.

-At one point in the second book he was battling a Loup Garou (cursed werewolf) in the Chicago Police Station. The Loup Garou was all but invulnerable to everything in the police's armory and was slaughtering the police until one of the cops shot it with a few silver bullets. Even then the Loup Garou kept coming. Harry hit him with a supercharged fire spell which sent the Loup Garou clean through the Police station (through several walls), out into the Chicago skyline through a few other buildings and finally smashed it into the city street far away. The Loup Garou quickly brushed itself off (because it was all but invulnerable) but the point remains that Harry pulled his equivalent of Cyclops's "Get of Mah Lawn!" attack. 😄

-At one point he called down the powers of a thunderstorm in order to strike down a demon that was attacking him. Said demon had previously treated 38 caliber bullets like beestings. When the storm-amped attack struck the demon however its corporeal vessel was utterly wrecked and it was sent screaming back to the Nevernever.

I love that scan; if I was to post a scan of Po Po stating that he is going to train Goku as a child to be as fast as lightning, would you accept it?

It happened in the manga.

I agree with this but if you look back, I am not the one that is bringing up DBZ speed, people keep down playing the characters so I am voicing my opinion so that they could be put into the right tier.

I said a long time ago that DBZ should even be in the tier placements because for one people dont like the characters, 2. people DO like the character but just think they are inconsistent but that rule apply for EVERY character and 3. Some people see them higher on the scale than what most do.

was it stated how fast he was going when he "turned in to lightning" or whatever it was.

combat speed and reflexes are pretty much the same thing in a lot of cases.

It has to be pretty fast for someone to actually "turn" into lightning during a blitz but some people are throwing if off as artistic license (which I do not understand), so I am leaving it alone. I dont even know why I bother posting DBZ feats when all of it is going to get downplayed anyway.

I could show Ginyu tossing people out of orbit with just a flinch of his arm and people would say it is artistic license.

I agree but I would love to see combat situations because its much easier to use speed in NONE combat situations.

Nod for Harry Dresden.

I meant to say, they shouldnt be in the tier placement.

Nod for Harry Dresden.

You already nodded silly. I'm trying to convince others. He just needs one more for placement. Based on what I've seen so far I think Harry is probably Mid Meta but Low Meta is a much easier argument.

nod for Harry.
anti-nod for the syfy channel canceling the tv show. sneer

we need to get some nods going for the other placements.

This:

For Mid Meta...

Found my Tomba stuff. Nods plz.

Tomba from Tomba! and Tomba!2: The Evil Swine Return for High Street.

He's got a variety of weapons and items he can use, a flying dog, good agility, a high running speed via the Animal Dash and is actually strong enough to smash large stone blocks with his Torch Hammer and throw his enemies large distances. It gets fairly impressive when you consider the size of the Evil Earth Pig from Tomba! 2, but smashing stone blocks is still more impressive. He also has manly pink hair.

Weapons:
Black Jack - Spiked Ball on the end of a rope. First weapon.
Boomerang and Ice Boomerang - self explanatory, retrieve distant items, puts out fires
Grappling Hook - Lets him swing from certain surfaces
Hammer and Fire Hammer - also self explanatory, melts ice and snow
Doka Pin - A combination of the Black Jack and Grapple.
Glacier Boomerang and Torch hammer - Bigger and badder Ice Boomerang, Torch Hammer lets you smash the big stone blocks

Other suits:
Flying Squirrel cloths let him travel long distances by gliding and even flapping. Also very warm.
Swimming Pig Suit - lets Tomba swim and somehow lessens the effect of gravity, allowing him to stay airborn longer and even jump a little higher.
Turbo pants - let him run faster
Pig Robes - one from each evil pig, lets him use some of their magic. They are Earth, Ice, Water, Fire, and Ghost I think is the last.

Only... Carver has never proven any of the claims he says Akira made. I think he just makes them up.

If he provided links, fine, contrary to popular belief I don't care whether or not Goku is more powerful than Superman, but you have to prove it.

Up to him to prove.

I forget who did.But somebody did and they were very good.

Thanks for showing me that combat speed.

You know what I am looking for.

That is what I would consider a combat speed. It shows very fast hand mobility which is practically what combat speed is.

😛 You have no official warnings. I usually tell people in a thread they have a warning. Though I haven't given many out in '10. mmm

Then bada goes in to cleanse the wound and ends up getting eaten instead.Me being his sole heir gets his modship.

Start with marwash.

I already posted the link where Akira stated Cell had power enough to destroy a solar system and you seen where people responded to akiras statement.

I know they were good, I seen EVERY last one of those scans and again, did I ever say that Superman was slow. Those scans wasnt on par with Goku even duirng the time that he was a child or a teen. Every last one of them were bull rushes, that is why I am asking for combat speed feats. Hell, one of the scans was from a Bizarro comic where it is made as childs play and anyone can do anything. Bizarro comics are NEVER to be taken serious. You can kind of tell when they use Bizarro as a serious character and that comic wasnt one of them. They even have choices with those, like him fighting Doomsday rex, or him fighting Mongul Jr, or the Imperex probe but it still aint DBZ style fighting but its enough to make me think that Superman is one of the fastest heralds when it comes to combat.
