Alex could give some high metas a fight, would get crushed by the majority, and would have a decent fight on his hands from the majority of low metas.
Therefore he is mid meta.
Ares is a class 70+ super-skilled tank that is bulletproof, carries adamantium weaponry and an assortment of little extra powers due to his divine heritage, such as those shown against X-Man.
I also haven't seen reasoning for why Alex would even beat him, much less without trouble, but it's not really important when all you could come up with was a handful of bricks without incredible speed to try to make a claim that Alex should be high meta.
You boast about his versatility, but apparently he can only give a real fight to one kind of powerset?

I didn't make the tier system, but I imagine Ares is where he is due to his durability, skill, gear, and his proven ability to fight Low Heralds.
also wolverine is more durable, more skilled and better at fighting low heralds than ares

Wolverine's HF allowing him to hang with the Hulk longer than Ares (and really that's only speculation, realistically Hulk could just bfr Wolverine right off the bat, something that would be more difficult against Ares) doesn't equate to Wolverine having an overall powerlevel greater than or even equal to Ares'.

they've had numerous encounters
even in WWH, ares went down in one embarrasing shot to WWH whereas logan at least put up a fight and was able to hurt hulk
