In fact those female players were hunting for "pretty powersets" which sometimes turned out to be an illogical pile of powers taken together...sometimes for only purpose to look "cool" and impress/attract male players.
A lot of female players at the game, though, is an advantage in terms of making love story plots.

I don't doubt any of that. However, them killing full grown grizzlies is an absolute myth.
But don't worry, Wolverine (the character) was based around that myth.

Alita is a cyborg, and is an extremely powrful martial artist who utilizes the art of Panzer Kunst. she has great experience with fighting very powerful opponents and is a ruthless fighter.
Panzer Kunst, or armored arts, is a legendary Martian martial art that seeks oneness between the senses. It is commonly referred to as the strongest of the cyborg martial arts and is especially effective in disabling and destroying larger opponents.
Originally, the only memories Alita had of her training are of her master on a red mountain. In Last Order however, after Dr. Nova built her Imaginos body and, in the process helped unlock her repressed memories, Alita now rememembers many things about Panzer Kunst including her master Gelda.
The names of all Panzer Kunst moves and disciplines are in German. It is revealed in Last Order that Panzer Kunst is the basis of many space martial arts.
Alita's Attacks
Most of Alita's attacks come from Panzer Kunst, although a few are of her own making.
Mauser School Elbogen-Blatt - the Panzer Kunst art of wielding Elbow Blades; Alita's preferred weapon.
Hertza Haeon -One of Alita's most common Panzer moves, the Hertza Haeon is a strike that delivers a high frequency vibration to the victim, concentrating kinetic energy on destroying or disabling the brain or heart. Can also be used by Figure Four, impressive because of his flesh-and-blood body.
Verschlag - The first part of a two-staged attack. An initial strike is first applied to set loose a shockwave which will bounce around inside the body, increasing in momentum and energy, before focusing in the limbs. The enemy might notice this as a slight ringing in their ears. This is followed up by:
Herzta Nadel - A second strike into the focal point of the shockwave, which cause the pent up energy to explode, blowing off or shattering the opponents limbs in an instant.
Plasma Bissen - a split-second plasma jet used to create undetectable cuts and gouges in the opponent's body. Usually concealed as a punch, swipe, or parry. This attack is an original one, made up by Alita.
Einzug Rüstungen - a technique used to match an opponent's rhythm and parry, then strike when the opponent drops their guard.

They are most possibly in the limits...honestly, the choise of people in the lover part of a chart is somewhat desent. Though they decided to go just with comics characters....people, honestly, western-style drawn manga is just as good evidence as a comics. If they allow comics/manga versions of games/anime originated characters (and limit the abilities of characters to those incarnations, so they would be provided with comparable information), it would be nice.

There's no wonder that previouis tournament was won by all-comics amalgam...sometimes people don't know full potential of the toys they get in their hands.
Even powersets of comics characters can get f*cked up interpretation.

As for my preferred duel weapon of that level, K' (I prefer comics version to game one in terms of duiels due to the fact that in comics he has more versalite showings...but game "main" version has its pros, for example, Blackout, while looking more as chi-speedup for a short time to incredible speeds (something close to 300 mph) is shown in game as teleport), people there tended to put him at the top part of low meta chart but still a low meta. So I don't think there would be any obstacles besides judges' narrowmindness and stucking with "pure blood" comics characters
