Black Angel [Rp]

Izu jumped out of his chair, first to prop the upset Shiki up then
to grab 20cc of saline solution. He injected it into where the catheter
sat in Avery's wrist and glared at Rori.
"I Imagine this was your doing Rori? I had heard you were out, but I
had no idea you were going to start hurting the ones who used to be your friends.
I swear, if I could near to you with a needle, I'd supress your urge to go
maiming. How would you do with a shunt in your brain Rori? Keep the animal
at bay. Then again I would probably get killed for even trying.
Anyway...219 should be fine in a bit. You overdosed him, we have to let the
medication become diluted. See...there we go, he's fine now. Just be more
careful with him, got it?" Izu didn't like giving Avery to Rori but he knew if
he had not he probably would have a hole in his neck.
"Now get out...shoo! You're scaring Shiki." He pointed to the door, signally
that Rori should probably leave now.

After coming out of his daze Avery looked up to see one very upset Rori,
a terrified Shiki, and a pissed off doctor.
"Rori....? Rori I'm fine now, calm down. Shit, if you need to pick a fight,
pick one with me. Idiot."

His hair was sticking out in disarray as he growled audible. Rori
did not take well threats, and he did not take well to people insulting
him. Hackles... That's what he would call them. Just like a damn
hellhound. Panic... Threat... Fight... His mind demanded he defend himself.

"Shut the Hell up, bast@rd! I'm out 'cause that dog and
the crazy girl 're too good ter 'unt down the bleedin' Invisible Man."

He could rip the man's throat if it came right down to it, but what
would that make him then? An animal? a monster?

"'e ragged the bloody IV out by 'imself. 'e just wanted ter be normal
for a bit. An' you, you 'ave no idea o' wot it means to be a freak, no idea
o' how it feels to be treat more loike an animal or a monster than a 'uman bein'.

That last statement had pissed Izu off.
"You...KISAMA! How dare you say that I have no idea what it's like?!
I spent three years scared for my life every day working the streets!
At least you're kept safe! You get fed, and have a bed! I spent every morning making sure I was still alive. You don't you say anything like that!!
You have the ability to fight back, I didn't. Now get out!" Izu pointed a tranq gun
at Rori.
"Rori....maybe we should get out of here." Avery tugged gently at Rori's shirt.
"Do I need to call security Izu..." Mori held up a pager.
"That, honestly, is up to Rori."

"Ten years ago when a lil' boy's parents died from
an opium overdose, no one kept 'im safe then. Not 'is uncle, not the
bloomin' gavvers, no one. 'e was left to fend for himself on the
streets after 'avin' lived a pampered life. You've no right to say I
don't know wot it means ter be scared.

My uncle chased me from my 'ome loike an unwanted vermin,
and I could do nuffin' about it because 'e'd paid off the police.
Do you think that as a five year old I 'ad the abili-y to protect
myself, to fight back? If you think ya know so well, don't you
treat me loike a bloody animal!"

His fists curled tightly, glared angrily back at Izu. He was wary of
the tranquilizer. The last time he'd found one of those pointed at
him he'd been dragged off for a mock fight. They had thrown him in
a pit full of beasts and told him to make sure he was the last one standing.

Izu sympathised with Rori but he couldn't compromise the safety of his charges.
"I understand that life was rough Rori. Is that what you want to hear?
Because I damn well know it was. I didn't just live in fear for my life,
they threatened to kill my sister. So I don't need you getting all selfrighteous
on me!" With this Izu shot a warning shot, over Rori's head, hitting the wall.

Hoping he wouldn't get noticed in all the fuss Avery stood up behing Rori and
snaked a hand to the back of base of his neck.
He scratched lightly where his hair started to grow.
He had read that it worked for birds, and he hoped that somewhere he had
touched some kind of bird. The other option he had he didn't want to
try. He figured he wouldn't get his arm back in one piece if he tried
to rub Rori's belly.

Rori's eyes had widened as he felt fingers comb
through his hair. Part of him - he wasn't too sure which part - wanted
to calm down, to relax and let the fingers keep brushing. But that
feeling was short lived as the chain about his next sparked to life
and ran an electric charge through him.

"Bloody impatient woman! I was getting to the 'unt!"

Rori shoved Avery away as the shock floored him and left him
panting for breath. Byrd was being a little harsh now wasn't she?

"I let you out to get me an experiment, Rori, but instead I find
you fooling around. Ah... At least you found me some other useful being."

Avery screeched in pain.
what the hell was that?! Rori was never able to shock me before!
Then he remembered the necklace and glared up at Byrd.
"What do you want Byrd? More 'playtime?'" Avery held his arm.
Unfortunatly he had now gotten burnt and shocked on the same arm.
He was not having a good day anymore.

As bad as Avery's day was Rose's was worse.
He tried to hide himself from Byrd, treating the drunken
Mori by giving him water and food to eat. He hoped that Byrd
wouldn't notice him, or at least leave him alone.

Izu watched Byrd like a hawk. There was no way he was going to let her near any of the experiments. He did, however, put down the tranq gun.

Paralyzed, Rori could only stare up at the woman he
despised. He hated her and yet he feared her. One false move and she'd
have him back in that pit, if not in some other horrible sort of torture.

Some days he wished he had taken the chance Kirrin had offered
him. Had he helped her escape he might have been free of this
hellhole now. But then again, he'd have left behind his oldest friend
for Byrd to prey upon. Kirrin had also promised to cure him, or to
at least try... Her negation hadn't seemed to affect him greatly,
likely because his power was to absorb and integrate an animal's
DNA. Once it was assimilate, it was part of him, and you can't
negate someones very essence.

Shiki on the other hand was desperately trying to get his legs to
work. If Byrd got him they'd hypnotize him again and turn him
into a mindless slave. Damn... Izu's treatment just wasn't wearing
off.

Plan B then...

Taking a deep breath, the illusionist calmed himself as much as
possible and attempted to recreate that cold composure he had
held for so long. Once he felt that everything might be in working
order, he looked up and stared indifferently at her.

"Mistress Byrd, your presence is quite... Unexpected. Experiment
#001 just returned me to the living world, which I am quite glad of.
My experience with her was, might I say, thoroughly unpleasant.
She was determined to test a procedure on me, a procedure which
has left me powerless for the time being. Unfortunately, the process
has also rendered me a temporary paraplegia. I am certain the
doctor will be able to explain more."

Izu took the hint from Shiki and smiled at Ms. Byrd.
"I don't quite understand what number one did,
but of course as soon as I can remedy this situation
I will have Shiki back to work. Is there anything that you
need or may I have some peace and quiet to further
evaluate the loss of feeling to Shiki's legs."
The doctor tried to put on his best professional
face and hope she believed his BS.
_____________
Rose looked up from where he was force feeding Mori and caught Byrd's eye.
"I...have to go use the bathroom...!" He stood up and walked quickly
towards the door, his speed only increasing as he left the dormitory.
_____________
Mori watched as his brother left.
"Bye!" He turned to the others, "I guess our bathroom isn't working....maybe
I threw up in it..." He was still very confused.
______________
Avery held his arm still, he was really regretting getting up this morning.
"H'llo." He grumbled at Byrd. After all that had happened today
he really wasn't up to trying to act civilized. He bent down to yet again
scratch Rori on the base of his neck, hoping that it would ease the pain.
He had once had a pet bird...if he could call it that. He had found a chick
that had fallen from its nest and he nursed it back to health. He kept the
pigeon for 3 years before he and Rori had to eat it one winter.
" Shto oo vas baleet? Sdyelayte gloobokeey vdokh, da?" Avery pulled Rori's
head on to his lap, gently petting his hair.

"Very well then, seeing as Shiki is not up to the
task at hand, you'll have to complete the job, Rori. Up boy, come
along now. I'll give you time to spend with your little friend
after you find me Isaac."

Still feeling that tingling sensation running through his body, Rori
merely glared back at her from where he lay across Avery's lap.
He wasn't too sure if Avvie meant this in a friendly sort of fashion
or what, but for the time being he tried to avoid that train of thought.

"Am I going to have to use it again, Rori? Get up.
We both know you can, you've recovered faster than this before."

Grumbling, Rori knew she was right - she'd done a test on it before.
The shock she had applied was really only enough to get him to jump.
True, it caused a Charlie Horse tingling, but other than that he'd
be able to function without any problem.

"Bloody 'ell, lady. Don't you think I deserve some time ta recover?"

"Up. Now. Otherwise I shock you and the boy."

"Fine, fine. I'm gettin'. Nah, I'm alright Avvie. Take care of yaself,
ok? Maybe I'll see ya 'round later."

Pushing himself off the floor, Rori shook like a dog before stuffing
his hands in his pants pockets and stalking out the door.

Avery glared up at Byrd.
"He needs more time to recover mistress Byrd.
And stop treating him like a dog." He too stood up, looking
down on her, though he probably weighed the same amount.
"I would advise against treating my friend poorly. You forget that I am not
Like Shiki, I don't follow orders." With this Avery laughed lightly and walked
out of the room, heading for his own. He looked back to make sure Rori
was alright.
"Dosvidanya Rori." He smiled.

Rose waited outside the room and a little ways down the hall for Byrd.
He had no real desire to tell her what really happened to Shiki
but there were far worse things then being an informant.

"Think she believed us, Izu-san?"

The room had been quiet for sometime after Reena and the others
left, and only now did Shiki dare to speak. He truly wanted to believe
that Reena knew nothing, but it was unwise to hope like that. The
Byrd probably knew everything. She was probably just toying with them.

"I should 'ave known you were spyin' for 'er, bird. But I can't
blame ya, what's she got on you?"

Rori knew Byrd's way of working, she'd used him once to spy on
the others in the group. Mainly the two sets of twins, for she had
feared their rebellious natures. Byrd had promised him things too.
She had told him that she'd save Avery and him from the worst of
the experimentations, that she would endow them with powers
what would not be as horrible as some of the things Rori had seen.
But ultimately, she felt as though Rori had failed her when a group
of children had escaped with help from the older kids. It was then
that she had sent her underlings to take Avvie away.

He blamed himself even now for Avery's isolation. He could clearly
remember the screams as the boy had been dragged down the hall.
He could remember almost dying when he tried to prevent Reena
from drugging his friend when he'd come back with The Plague. And
then, then the year of terror that followed, knowing that someday the
Omega guard would come for him.

And look how he turned out... Byrd had cursed them both...

"Careful bird. If ya don't watch your step, you'll turn out loike me."

"Rori. Don't test my patience again, get over here and be
quiet like a good boy. Now Rose, what have you for me?"

Rose looked terrified. He didn't know what Rori was talking about but he
surmised that he wasn't the first to spy on the other experiments. He
watched as Rori took his side by Byrd, like the dog he is Rose
thought.
"I'm nothing like you, animal. I do this so Mori can stay safe, though why
I'm even telling you I don't know." Rose tried to put on his tough
face, holding in his desire to break down crying.
"Mori will be kept safe? I know you say we go through this
every time but I need to know. There is no point of me helping
you if ever Mori is hurt." He walked off a little, to make sure
he was out of earshot of the other group.
"The doctor...he figured something out." Rose was hopeful, maybe Reena
would think it was a good idea and further the research on it.
"It temporarily inhibits our powers. He said that it's some part of your brain
that's close to your walking part." Rose had always hated biology.
"Shiki can't walk, but he also can't use his powers. It's amazing!
He's planning to work out a way to insert some tubething into our brains
so we don't have to be under the control of our powers all the time."
Rose was very excited, though part of it was the agitation he felt when
he was near Rori. He never knew when Rori might attack so he was always
very jumpy, ready to run if he needed to.
"I just hope that he can further his research." Rose not-so-subtly hinted.

"Shii, I hope so too. I really do."
Izu set to work on trying to find out how to move Shiki to his own room.

" You freakin' idiot!"

He couldn't believe that Rose come out and told Byrd something
so important. Was he a complete fool or so naive to think that that
witch might actually care? Bloody fool! Izu's research was important.

"Do you really think she'll keep 'er promise?!?! I spied on you and
the others once in exchange for keepin' Avvie and me safe from the
tests! My info wasn't good enough so look wot 'appened ter us!"

"Rori. You decided to turn on me. You withheld information and told
them to change the time of the escape. What happened to you and
Avery is your fault alone. Rose is a wiser person than you, he
isn't bartering with another person's well-being and not carrying through."

Damn that woman to bloody Hell. She just had to keep reopening
that wound. Damn her for know how to torture him.

He knew what would happen now. She was going to send him
after Izu. His success on such an experiment would not be ignore.

No... It most definitely wouldn't.

Rose shied away from Rori, hoping to escape before he got violent.
"If I don't she'll experiment on Mori. Can't you understand? I guess
not, you let Avery be turned into a freak! How could you do that?!
Have you even told him? You don't know
how unhappy he is. I'm not going to let that happen to Mori.
Avery was your mess, not mine. I want Mori to be able to
hold someone one day, without killing them. You ruined Avery's life
I'm not going to ruin Mori's." Without waiting for Byrd to excuse him,
Rose took off, crying gently as he ran down the hall.
He hadn't wanted to hinder Izu, but his brother was more important.
Rose wished there was a way for Mori to be safe without causing others pain
but he knew there wasn't, not at BA.

Rori was about to give chase when another shock ran
through his body. He whined in pain and frustration but dropped
to his knees before the witch.

The little finch knew his secret now... He couldn't trust the bird not
to reveal it, and if he did... Bloody freakin' Hell. Avery would hate
him forever. It was his fault that Avery couldn't get close to anyone,
that anyone who got within six feet of him died. He could live with
blaming himself continuously, but he didn't want his only friend to
abandon him. He'd lost everyone... His parents, his uncle, his family,
his friends... Only Avery... Only he remained.

Don't take that away from me, too.

Byrd wouldn't care if Avery knew, Rose probably wouldn't
either. Only he would... Mori knew he had been a spy,
Kirrin had too... And Shiki... He'd lost the illusionist's
trust when he had attacked him that night. Only Avery left...

"Get Izu, Rori."

He didn't have the will to disobey anymore. All was lost.
All hope... Gone... He should have left when he was able.
Anything was better than this life of death and white walls.

So quiet... So clean... So abnormal... So full of fear.

Not bothering to get up, Rori fell forwards onto his hands
and took off on all four limbs towards the twins' room. Izu
didn't deserve to be punished for this... But what could a
bleeding animal do about it.

He didn't matter after all.

Avery's heart broke when he overheard the conversation.
His best friend and first crush had damned him to be alone forever.
Why hadn't he just told me? He openly tells the twin but not his best friend?
Avery slammed his door loudly,
enough so Rori could hear, and laid down on his bed.
So what? It's not like the plague needs any dog to
hang around with.

He buried himself in his pillow and comforter.
_______________
Izu heard Rori approaching and surmised that he was the spy to Byrd, again.
He never quite trusted Rori, and today all trust left was severed.
"Shiki, I need you to not move,
he's after me.
Just stay perfectly still and don't engage him. Got it?"
Izu opened the door and sat back down on the bed,
straightening his medical coat.
He figured he was probably going to die,
but he wasn't going to go out
looking like a mess.
"Hello hound of hell."

He was practically foaming at the mouth as he raced into the
room. He'd had time to weigh his options as he ran and he knew
what had to be done. He wouldn't stay here anymore. His friendship
with Avery had been his only reason not to run for it, and somehow
he knew that "friend" wasn't what Avvie would call him anymore.

Leave him then. He had hoped to tell Avery someday, but if he
couldn't accept the truth now, leave him. Leave behind all that
guilt and escape to the one person who might still trusted him,
where ever she might be. He could easily make it past the guards,
the collar might be a pain but he could ignore that too. Run...
Fighting was not an option anymore. Run before the chance
escaped him. And if he wasn't able to make it out, why not help
others do it. Reconciliation for his past wrongs.

Get the doctor out.

Izu hated him, but Izu was trustworthy... The only one who still had
morals. He would have let Mattie out too, but his attempt to communicate
with her through the wall earlier proved that she was too deep under.
Izu then... Izu and Shiki... Mori if he was able. The three who might
be able to survive out there...

Panting as he crouched on the floor, Rori could smell the fear
pouring off of Shiki and the anger which emanated from the doctor.
But still, he had to do this... Had to risk everything to save a few.

"The bloody thumb-suckin' finch ratted on you and the others. 'e
says 'e's doing it for Mori, but its just as much for 'imself. Byrd knows
wot you've been doin', Izu. Either run now, or risk your life. I doubt
the witch will let ya live if you're anywhere within the B.A."

His eyes begged for the man to believe and to choose the
wiser course of action. Out there Izu could find the cure...
Out there they'd be safe.

"If ya wanna run, I know a way out."

Izu smiled warmly at Rori.
"Get the others out, take Avery with you if you can.
Don't worry so much about me, they need me here. All my research
is in my med keycard. It has a drive associated with it. I need you to get it out."
With this he held out his left hand, the keycard was unfortunately located
in his palm.
"There are doctors who can implement my research. I need to stay here,
the other's need a healer. I can't abandon them. I'm sorry."
He stood up, healing his hand from the removal of the card and walked to
the door.
"I can stall her long enough, you need to get out. You can't just take one
twin. If they are separated they will both die. Take care of yourselves
out there." Izu walked towards the woman who might order his death.
"You summoned me Reena?"
________________________
Avery didn't hear any screaming, so he opened his door slightly.
Rori had obviously not killed Izu, for which he was happy.
He only wished Rori could explain to him why he had betrayed his best
friend. He was starting to regain a bit of his powers and was turning a pale
shade of yellow. Seeing Byrd he thought he might just have an opportunity to
finally end it. He slowly walked up behind her, wrapping his lean arms around
her waist, smiling into her hair.
"Reena Byrd...how wonderful to see you." He hissed, his gums receding.

((Scared out of my mind right now... I'm home alone and I just watched
Kakurenbo... O_O The voices from outside... They're coming...))

Rori and Shiki had finally come to an agreement when the first
of the shots rang out. It lacked the scent of blood, however, and
Rori immediately knew what was happening. Even so, the rush
of footsteps and the number of voices in the hall took him by surprise.

Ten... No, twelve... thirteen, maybe fourteen at most.

Something was definitely off. Izu had left only a few minutes ago,
Reena couldn't know already. And yet... The Omega Guard was
already here! How could this be? Sure, he could probably outrun
them, but he had been hoping to avoid detection for a bit longer.

They're getting louder...

"Shiki, 'ang on."

"Huh? Wait! Wha~?"

He grunted as his stomach collided with Rori's shoulder, but he had
no time to complain about being manhandled as they were off in a
matter of seconds. Even wrapped in #001's cloak, he had insisted
upon taking it as it seemed to dampen the extent of his powers,
a close encounter with the door frame had his ears ringing.

"Watch my back, Ki. Looks loike this is gonna
be tougher than I thought"

_______________________

"Thank you, Lark. You're timing is as good as ever."

Avery's display of mock kindness had had Reena coughing up blood,
and it was only thanks to her bodyguard that she wasn't lying on the
ground. A few scarlet drops still splattered across her cheek, Reena
pushed herself off the floor and stepped over #219's prone body. The
tranquilizer dart embedded in the boy's neck ensured that he wouldn't
be getting up anytime soon.

"Was that part of your plan, Izu? To have me die of plague while
you stood nearby and watched? I see you were able to escape Rori.
Did you use that tranq gun you had earlier?"

This man...

How she hated him. How she wanted to see him dead.
But his type of experiment was a dying breed. Those created recently
were weak and fragile beings - incapable of half the things this doctor
could do. And he knew that, it gave him the gall to stare her straight
in the eye without fear. She couldn't get rid of him, he was needed.

"How does it feel, Izu? To know that you've failed?"

Her trusted guard behind her, Reena felt no fear. Here she held
the power. Here she answered to no one but Brenda Song.
