I believe purgatory is wishful thinking.

purgatory? nope. cause i dont beleive in heaven or hell in the abrahamic sense. so why wud i believe in sumthing in between em.

It really flows from a belief in the Judeo/Christian/Islamic heaven and hell. I doubt anyone believes in purgatory but not those. So it's really just tantamount to asking whether or not a person is Christian (given the KMC audience, since the other 2 are in short supply). Occasionally Christians weren't taught to believe in purgatory, so you'll find a scattering of "heaven/hell but not purgatory" people. But otherwise, that's about all you'll get.

No.

why? its just a big white place. (thank you family guy and futurama for that knowledge)

Well, if one is a Christian, it's not mentioned in the Bible.

No of course not.

so, what's the purpose to it? It's just a scape hole made my the Roman Catholic church. It's a money thing. Give money and we'll pray those souls out of this place and into heave. Mass.

Sheol/Hades = purgatory.

Not really, that mean death of the body. purgatory means a resting place to purge yourself of your sins. When you are purged, then you get to go to heaven.

Not really. Your ideas of purgatory aren't very consistent with any theology. And they definitely don't mean the death of the body. None of the Jews, Catholics, Orthodox, or Protestants ever believed that nor do they today. Your statement is unfounded.

So then, who or what institution created Purgatory, and for what reason? As for others, the original word only means death. In some beliefs, with good reason, the word soul means life in the body and nothing more.

The Catholic church as a skewed version of it, based on centuries of teaching. The Orthodox church has a slightly different teaching on it. The only reason is for the sake of theology. It was never intended as a trapping to get money. It was later used as such, but there is no evidence to show that was the original intent.

No the word does not mean death at all. Catholic translations sometimes use the word death, but that is not it's actual meaning. You'd have to read what the Bible says about it to actually understand exactly what it is.

As much as I hate sourcing internet sites that is the best I can give off the top of my head.

And god breathed life into man, and man became a living soul. This means in the original text. life. Nothing spiritual.

There are many other scriptures that also speak of soul only being life in this moral world.

Purgatory sometimes is the word of mouth of everybody...

It's a made up place. Made for monies sake for the church. It's a false hope praying on the sorrowful. It's made to plague them on thoughts that their loved ones will never get into heaven unless something is done. Hense,...Mass. Mass is money spent to pray them out of there.

Yes.

That's one of the most ridiculous statements I've ever heard. Mass is not meant to pray for the souls in Purgatory, yes we do mention them sometimes, but the intent of Mass is to worship God and listen to the Gospel. Any money collected at Mass goes to the poor or to finance the maintenance of the church building, not to get souls out of Purgatory.
