Most likely, it will have lag. Every game has for certain people.
Yes unlucky if you have crap internet connection but the majority of lag will be caused by distance because most developers don't bother to give each continent it's own server. A simple colour system to represent ping will be enough to stay away from lag though or better yet give Europe, U.S and Asia there own servers.
The date in the states is the 17th, but there are reports of some stores getting it early and since the game is apparently not street dated they can sell them as soon as they get them without any repercussion. So far some people have said Wal-Mart has gotten them in, and some people are saying that 7/11's should be getting them in tomorrow. So if you really want to get it early it may be possible.

Where did you get it? Was it the Japanese version you got or the American?
And yeah, there is no actual street date for the game, so you can play it online as long as you bought a copy and didn't pirate it.

it's just that I wasn't sure enough to go Live since what happened with GOW2 and all.
I got it at my usual store, (I don't live in the states) had in on reserve and everything (just paid 70$, free shipment since I'm friends with the owner), it arrived yesterday... I was surprised cuz I thought I'd have to wait till next Friday 😄
...oh, yes, I'm sure it's the american version (though it has both the English and Japanese voice track)

the graphics and the animation are top notch (though a bit exaggerated with Rufus belly, looks like jell-o), the environments, beautiful, and everything looks hand-painted.
too bad the cinematics don't follow suit, bad anime, like an early flash animation, they should use in-game cinematics...
love the music... especially the one in the african airport stage
It's just like SFII, plays like it, but the graphics makes it look gorgeous... I still don't understand the Focus mechanics, but there's enough time to do so
haven't tried out the new characters, though Crimson Viper, somehow, is the most appealing of the bunch.
One thing I hate though: the 360 controller. The D-pad is way to loose...using the thumb stick isn't as accurate, makes me miss the dualshock controller so much... though if I could get my hands on an arcade joystick, it'd make things much easier... IMO
oh yes; the english audio doesn't match the lipsync all that well. Clearly, such animations are meant for the Japanese track, which is thankfully, available.
Yeah, the 360 controller is ass for fighting games.
They did release some special controller just for SFIV, you can probably still find them online.

My brother bought this game already, LMAO.
I've only gone over to his place to play once though, however, although definitely not as beastly as I was back in the days when I took fighting games seriously, I'm no push over either, hahahaha.
It's been fun though, because I've been schooling everyone, even my ex's brother's came over to play along with her cousins. They all got foot stomped by my Ryu. The only one who can remotely compete against me is my younger brother, and I believe it's because his main was always Sagat, and Sagat can stand toe to toe with Ryu.
My ex's brother has a beastly Gief...however I played against 230948230948239048290348920340928 Gief's in Japan, that his Gief doesn't even phase me. I won, I was was getting pretty full of myself at that time, lol, although it was all in fun. We also had a "mini" money tournament for it, and I won, lol, not surprised, oh well, I took it all and ordered us pizza anyhow, hahaha.
Good times, SF:IV is the greatest fighting game I've played in a LONG, LONG time. This game is sweet, however, I'll expect that the whopping I gave to my brothers they won't take it likely and they'll probably practice up to try and beat me the next time I go to play again, lolz.
