And what number of gears were there? J'onn seems to note that the number is endless. Who knows how much of a mechanical advantage there actually was. How big were they individually? Who knows. But the second scan shows some of them in the background and if you look in the right hand corner, you'll see some slaves carrying around blocks. So they don't seem that big:
