Well, yeah, but that's different from determining that he's weak to a specific energy type.
I think an argument that he would sense that Superman was powered by solar energy and suck out that energy is, at least, more likely and less of a stretch than saying that he'd suss out Superman's weakness to kryptonite.

Err... Hulk? Wonderman? lolwut?
Neither of those are what we are talking about. It's the equivalent of saying "well, he can do an appendectomy so he can perform brain surgery". It's nice that he can do the one, but it doesn't mean that he can do the other.
(And in the case of Wonder Man he just injured Simon with his blasts, no esoteric energy manipulation mentioned, at least not in the Silver Surfer issue)

^ Maybe you didn't see the edit, but finding the specific frequency to throw Wonderman's ionic energies out of phase seems pretty much to be what you're asking for.Trying to think of more.
Hmm, are we talking ab out the Infinity Crusade thing? It's been a while since I read it (from Silver Surfer, right?) but I recall him just blasting Simon.

Just to reiterate, all told I think Surfer wins 6/10, maybe 7/10 these days with Superman on the downswing power wise.
I wonder why DC iis doing that? I remember a while back where they were stating (posted the interview a while back) that they were going to decrease his powers but they never gave a reason. In a recen wizard interview, they stated that they were going to take him back to the levels where he couldn't be in space for to long due to shortage of air.. said that it made the stories more interesting (whatever that means). Then right after that, they compared him to Superboy along with the other kryptonians, calling them his equals.
I think its stupid and I hope they explain because I'm pretty sure it will upset a lot of fans. Look at how the fans reacted with thor when he lost the OF.

I'd love to see where DC said that, because the comics haven't reflected that at all.
They've actually gone the opposite way, and made Superman look far superior to other Kryptonians.
IMO, it'd be a great fight, actually. I see Superman taking the early part of the fight with his superior combat effectiveness (combination of speed/strength/skill). I see Surfer getting knocked around during the first part of the fight (but tanking the hits like a champ). This is the part Supes will have the best chance of winning (and easily at that) if he KOs the Surfer during this part, he wins. But I don't see it happening more than 2/10.
Majority of the time, Surfer tanks the hits up until he adjusts his game and uses his versatility to win this. Weakness exploit, run and gun, intangibility, shrink and attack, etc., too many options.
I believe Surfer will win the late game 8/10.
