Gladiator and the Shiar forces were journeying through space, suddenly they came across a giant living planet(Ego), Gladiator along with the Shiar forces proceeding in attempting to "dismantle' the living planet as they deemed him "a threat" to space.Surfer comes out of nowhere and battles Gladiator in a blow for blow "even" battle, Surfer's plea is that Ego is a "living being" and deserves to live thus they fight it out in a blow for blow EVEN battle, no circumstances, no holding back, both fought for the win.Surfer is about to give the battle up as Glad is beginning to gain the upper hand.Ego "realizing" that Surfer was on his side donated some of his power to Surfer in attempts of ridden himself of Gladiator(his threat)..Surfer "still" didn't topple Gladiator, the fight ended in a stalemate as Glad decided that Surfer's way of piece was the "right" way..Surfer used no power draining whatsoeva, it's assumed that it wouldn't work because or else he would have saved himself alot of trouble against Gladiator..
And then Lobo in JLA Avengers crossover from the years before last, Lobo locked down the ENTIRE Shiar empire BY HIMSELF, so bad they were calling for help! And Superman stomps Lobo every rip.

Then In that crossover SS backslapped Orion like a kid
Same Orion that gives Darkseid and supes touble.
And in supes/SS SS turned a toy (size) into a city lol just shows how immense his powers are.

Also, in the Pheonix Saga, Collosus went toe to toe with Gladiator and was shrugging off punches like they weren't shit. And I'm a firm believer Supes could flick his wrist and send Collosus at the sun if he felt like it. Especially after OUR WORLDS AT WAR, when Superman was moving planets with his bare hands, similar to what he did in Crisis on Infinite earths when they were in the Antimatter universe and he was throwing planets and moons at the Antimonitor. And like said earlier, Gladiator went toe to toe with Surfer for some time.

Gladiator busts open planets rather easily.
Whoa, now we're talking about pre-crisis Superman? The guy doesn't even exist anymore. Kryptonite dust would kill pre-crisis Superman. It was a way bigger weakness then than it is nowadays.

Lobo is physically on par with Superman.
He becomes to immune to any attacks after they are used against him
Super healing, beyond even that of wolverine [he shrugs off nukes like nothing and lights a cigar off of em]
Immortality, Heaven and Hell dont want him, so he's cursed to stay in the universe
He can track anyone, anywhere, anytime if he's seen/met you before.
And each drop of his blood, if it spills, makes another Lobo.
In Our Worlds at War, Lobo single handedly took on Darkseids entire planet after getting bombarded by millions of Parademons with guns. Even cursed at the Black Racer [an aspect of Death] as he was "dying", and rose up into thousands of lobos.
After the lobos are done, they all hunt eachother, and only the very strongest survives, because Lobo is finatical about being the only one that he killed off his whole race.

The Shiar Empire is not limited to a planet. It is galaxy-spanning. The Imperial Guard would beat the pants off of Lobo, much less the entire Empire.

Well it happened, and its considered to be part of the continuum, so I suggest you read up.
Also, one of the Guardians of OA handed it to Galactus in the series too.
Surfer has a chance if he uses his solar power draining tactic(similiar to the one that ownz the hulk on many occasions).
But, in a *** for all out battle it would be a far better battle the likes of Surfer simply draining Kal-EL for the easy, meaningless win..
Both would come with all they got and "have" to utilize each and every ability they have including intelligence..

If it happened in a crossover, it might be epic.
But, if we logically consider both of their powers and abilities, Surfer owns. Superman is limited to punching Surfer, while Surfer has so many other options.
