Just got back. This is a fun movie for people of all ages. Ever since Civil War I had sort of a grudge against Iron Man but this movie has restored my liking of his character. There wasn't that much action scenes but that didn't destroy the film. It had a great origin, and I like the way they switched it from Vietnam to Afghanistan. Modern. I also thought Downey Jr. did a wonderful job. He was perfectly cast seeing how he used to subscribe to some of Stark's traaits(drinking, partying, etc.) Everyone else did a great job. This was probably the funniest superhero movie(thanks to Downey Jr. again) and the crowd(which was soldout) and myself were laughing from start to finish. The action scenes were spectacular especially him in the MarkIII armour in that foriegn county saving those people and against the two jets. When Rhodey said "Next time" does that mean we'll see War Machine in the next installlment? I also stayed after the credits. IT'S/HE's THERE PEOPLE(if you know what I mean). 8.5/10.P.S. Also saw the NEW "The Dark Knight" trailer. It's going to be freakin aweswome.
yeah great post.I saw this film yesterday and I got to say this is by far easily the best marvel comicbook film ever.No contest.I mentioned earlier I liked Fantastic Four Rise of the silver surfer but THIS movie is 10x's better than that one and the xmen movies as well since thats being talked about here.Very few flaws at all. Before I go into my delight of the film, want to talk about the upcoming previews I saw. This looks to be the best movie summer ever from the previews. The first preview they showed was for The Incredible Hulk. This looks to be ANOTHER great marvel comicbook movie.Much better than that horrible one before. Then they showed the new Indiana Jones movie which also looks like another great Indy movie, and last but not least, well I'll save that for last.they showed a couple others, but they were like comedys and things like that that I dont remember the name of.
Yeah thats pretty clever how they decided to use the war in afghanistan instead of vietnam to get us updated here with the present.Downey was great in that role, perfect casting choice.Never read the comic but looks like he is a lot like millionaire playboy Bruce wayne? drinking, party animal and womenizer multimillionaire? loved the view of that house on the top of the mountains overlooking the shore, awesome.Just loved the night scenes of him flying and dodging those jets, that was just too cool.yeah those action scenes were spectacular. I agree, this is a movie for all ages.everyone else did a great job as well just like you said.I hadnt seen Jeff Bridges in a movie in ages so for the first hour I didnt even recognize him, never seen him bald before.
I agree, its got to be the funniest superhero movie ever,do largely in thanks to Downey and great screenwriting.yeah I had the same experince YOU did.The crowd wasnt completely sold out but it was packed with not many seats left and they also were cracking up,laughing from start to finish. and since you talked about it in your last sentence, thought I would save it for last as well.
The other preview trailer I saw there was none other than The Dark Knight and I totally agree with you, that movie is going to be freakin awesome.cant wait for it. 💃 especially since Bats is my second favorite comicbook character. This movie looks so great from the previews matter of fact,as hard as it is to believe,it looks like its going to be even better than Batman Begins.Maybe even better than the first two superman movies which are my two favorite comicbook films of all time.I sure am happy that the movie didnt turn out to be what I was dreading.
I remember when Batman 89 came out,I was all pumped up and excited about that movie despite the casting choice of Keaton as Batman cause the trailers made the movie look like such an amazing film, but that was the ONLY good thing about the movie was the trailer and the most exciting thing about it.This movie,is every bit as great and exciting as the trailer looks and like he said, for the people who have not seen the trailer for The Dark Knight yet, your in for a treat when you DO see it.Again I would say this is easily by far marvels best comicbook movie ever to date.no contest.Glad to see that they FINALLY delivered on a great movie for once.I plan to see this movie 3 or 4 more times before Indy comes out. 💃 💃

And yet, if he thinks The Dark Knight sucks, he'll somehow think all the blame rests on them. Not his inability to learn from his mistakes, chill out and reserve his expectations.

So did I, what's your point? You don't have to like something you grew up with.To me, putting X-Men, any of their movies, next to Iron Man, is ridiculous. The second one, which was the best of the three in my opinion, was just an action movie with X-Men in it. It wasn't an X-Men movie.

I guess my point is i'm biased, and thx, i don't have to like anything.
I prefer X-men to Ironman, Spiderman, etc... IMO Ironman is a much easier adaptation to the big screen compared to X-men, F.F., Spiderman... The X-men films could have been a hell of a lot worse, and as a long time fan, i'm glad they turned out decent ( besides X3.)

If they had done a Wolverine movie first, like they did an Iron Man and Hulk (And presumably Thor and Captain America) movie first, it might have worked. There were just too many people wanting to include too many characters with too many backstories.
If you don't include one generic X-Man, fans get pissed. Yet, include him and fail to depict him properly and they still get pissed. Venom, being a perfect example. Everyone wanted him in it, but then he was shit, so it became "I'd rather him not be in it.".

I thoroughly enjoyed Iron Man. Robert Downey, jr was very very likable and most impressive as Stark. In fact everyone played their role with repesct and likability. That said Iron Man made a very impressive $201 million worldwide which I knew it would. I look forward to the sequel in 2010 and hopefully it will be the alcohol storyline and Terrance Howard donning the War Machine armor.

Venom could have been awesome.

I still firmly believe that he should have been introduced as Eddie Brock in the first movie, then he would have a two movie rivalry to support an entire third film of him being Venom.-AC
I agree. But even if they had gone with just introducing him withing one mocie, they could have still done it in good, you know?
I'm going to keep this brief since most gave accurate portrayals of the movie (the positive stuff). There were two very insignificant things I didn't like.
1. The music seemed strange to me at certain times. Most specifically, it was overly peppy when he was testing the suit and flying around.
2. This isn't a real big spoiler, but I'm using the spoiler tags just to be safe:
Spoiler:
I thought it was dumb that he got shot out of the sky by a tank. Tanks have horrible aim, especially for moving targets. Have you ever heard of a tank shooting down fighter jets? No, thats because it doesn't happen. Now make it a jet the size of a person and it makes the odds even smaller.
Like I said though, those were fairly insignificant considering the movie is 2 hours. And there were many things I liked about the movie two, I'm just not getting into them because I were just be repeating others.
8/10

They could have done better, perhaps.Being someone who likes the comics, I feel the rivalry between them would be sold short if they did it the injustice of expecting me to believe it could erupt in one movie.

I never read the originals, but at least in Ultimate it came about quite rushed as well. Then again it wasn't that good. But I agree with you generally, though Eddie Brock is kind of an idiot either way. Could have made him a badass idiot though.

Wasn't Eddie the guy who tried to beat up Peter in the hall during lunch in the first film? I can't remember what "MJ" called that guy...but I thought it was Eddie.
