Iron Man

Well... here's this. it was a matter of time:

LOS ANGELES - This weekend was just the beginning of Hollywood's Iron age

Marvel Studios announced Monday it will release "Iron Man 2" on April 30, 2010, following the success of the first in the comic-book franchise, which pulled in $104.2 million domestically since opening last Thursday and $201 million worldwide.

Four other films based on Marvel superheroes also were announced: "Thor," due out June 4, 2010; "The First Avenger: Captain America," May 6, 2011; "The Avengers," July 2011; and "Ant-Man," which is in development but has no release date.

Marvel also has "The Incredible Hulk," starring Edward Norton, coming out this June 13 from Universal Studios.

Just as Downey's character, Tony Stark, makes an appearance in next month's "The Incredible Hulk," the Hulk could turn up in "Iron Man 2," Marvel Studios Chairman David Maisel said during a conference call to discuss the company's earnings. And "The Avengers" consists of a rotating roster of Marvel heroes — including original members Iron Man, the Hulk, Ant-Man and Thor — that could see the return of virtually any of the franchise's characters.

"In controlling our destiny, we can control where the characters are and we can have our movies connect and be in the same universe," Maisel said.

"Iron Man" was the first film financed by Marvel, which previously licensed its superheroes to Hollywood studios for such hits as the "Spider-Man," "X-men" and "Fantastic Four" flicks.

Seeking more creative control and a bigger cut of the receipts, Marvel plans to make future films itself and hire studios to distribute them for a fee.

Starring Robert Downey Jr. as a billionaire weapons designer who builds himself a high-tech metal suit to fight bad guys, "Iron Man" exceeded box-office expectations, coming in second only to the first "Spider-Man" for debuts among non-sequels.

Iron Man is one of the best Comic book adaptations, second only to Batman Begins. Downey gave an excellent performance as Tony Stark/Iron Man as did Terrance Howard. Look forward to seeing Terrance don the War Machine armor. Also look forward to seeing

Spoiler:
Thor
in the sequel.

Where did you get that info?

I sincerely doubt and hope that isn't true, as it would ruin Iron Man 2. I'd think that character would have his own movie first, imo.

I'm glad to hear that, considering how well Iron Man was done.

The Avengers is in development so far as "We wanna make it.".

It won't come before a Thor or Captain America movie. I just hope they don't start getting unrealistic and expect all these movies to be trilogies.

I hope not. I don't want to see Thor in an "Iron Man" movie. It just doesn't fit for me.
I say let Iron Man get his own story with some tie ins later, and finally reach across the MU.

Speaking of War Machine I hope they don't just throw him into the story. I want them to show the problems of Stark first, being the alcoholism, and Rhodes taken over for a while as Ironman. They could then show the problems that Rhodes had with the armor, which I think would go onto screen very well.

Then War Machine could be shown later.

Gotta Milk the cow while is still big Marvel studios.

The Spiderman and X-men cow is running dry.

damn, Marvel are finally beginning to make proper use of their phenomenal content resources.

I hope Hulk is as much of a success as Iron Man, would be cool to see Hulk being an Avenger, talking sensibly and using that awesome might to totally absurd effect.

Do you really expect them to wait 5-6 years to make Iron Man 2 and let Downey age that much. That sounds logical?

Yeah, that would be a cool storyline for the sequel.

This is where I found my info...

wow Iron Man was the first film financed by Marvel. It all makes perfect sense now why Iron man is the first really great marvel comicbook film to have been made that rivals greatness like D C'S Batman Begins and Superman the movie and Superman II.Better than late that never to learn from your mistakes.just wish they had started doing that way back in 2000. 😠

thanks for the tidbit of information.

Oh give it a rest.

I hope they make a West Coast Avengers movie so we can see some hot actress play Tigra.

I guarantee you if this movie HADN'T been financed by marvel, they would have found someway to ruin it like they have all the other marvel comicbook movies in the past probably by not bothering to give him the red and yellow suit and would have just given him a plain silver suit.Thats a given.and they would have come up with some lame ass excuse for not giving him the yellow and red suit saying something moronic like-the average moviegoing audience wouldnt be able to accept it seeing a a man flying around in a yellow and red suit, they would be wondering why he would have bothered to do that.they always did come up with some moronic explanation like that in the past when they didnt stay loyal to the source material like Iron man apparenty has.
