Doesn't mean you can't appreciate the Bible as a book.
Agreed!

I wouldn't say I'm an Atheist but I lean much more in that direction than the other. I believe in the possibility of God but I absolutely don't believe anyone has it right if there is one. And "Christians" are some of the biggest hypocrites of them all. IMO And its not Christianity I have a problem with but rather the people that refer to themselves as christians but are constantly judging others and trying to force their opinions down others throats. That's what I have a problem with. Let me believe what I want and as your bible says don't judge me. That is for God to do.

As long as your not hurting other people I don't care what you wanna believe. All I ask is the same in return.

But even still reading the bible is a good idea IMO. Its metaphorical value is immense without taking the words for fact.

Actually it was "dreamed" up by several people throughout history and passed on in several different versions and tales by many people and generations and finally put together voting in and out different versions by the people in power till you have what we do today. But what do you call all fiction and I'm sure you enjoy all of it!

Never the less who it was made by or for its still a very insightful book for many reasons other than religious or historical text.

Wow you seem to have a strong opinion for someone who has never read the Bible, how very ignorant of you ✅

I think you will find that the New Testament alone is one of the most reliable ancient historical documents. Generally the reliability of ancient text is judged upon the amount of time between the events occurring and being documented (How contemporary they are) and the sheer quantity of texts available at the time. By these two merits the historical accounts to confirm the existence of Julius Caesar are between 10 to 16 composed at around 900 years after the events whereas the books of the New Testament number at 25,366 copies dated mostly between 50-75 years after the time of Jesus but lead up to 300 A.D at the time of Constantine.

In short, this "Work of fiction" is one of the most reliable historical accounts of the ancient world, regardless of whether you agree with it's spiritual message (Which I do) ✅

Ok I know this isn't the place for this and I know I shouldn't be posting this response but I can't stop myself.

So your saying that God had a man gather 2 of every species and build a boat large enough to carry them all within his lifetime using only very basic and in our terms primitive hand tools? Or that the Earth and Man was created as is in a matter of six days when we have mounds of scientific evidence to prove otherwise for both?

OK I apologize for my outburst and if I offended your believes but please feel free to pm me your response or site another place to discuss this if you wish since I don't wish to clutter this thread with any more of this particular off topic discussion. 🙂

Listen, my friend, I'm more or less an atheist myself. The fact is, regardless of whether or not you see the Bible as having a modicum of historical or religious accuracy to it, the social implications the book has had on modern day society are unparalleled. To ignore the literary Bible (rather than the religious or moral text) is to ignore a very, very large part of today's world.

Methinks the thread has gotten somewhat off-topic. Back to e-yelling at Joephisto?

Luke Cage...

while at my local comic shop, i asked if the brand new day was selling...he pointed to 2-two racks full of the comic and said he has not sold as well as he hoped...he even asked me to try it out for free.... i declined

I also didn't intend to derail this topic and I apologize. And likewise I'd be more than happy to discuss my belief regarding the Bible with anyone through PM's 😄

Back on topic, anyone like my new sig?

Context and ignoring something are completely different

I meant to comment on that earlier. I love it

And yet I do. 😐

Alot of it is metaphor.

Whoa whoa whoa people, calm down.

We don't want the Comic Book Boards to end up like the General Discussion Boards do we? I mean seriously, that place is a mess.
