STAR WARS: RETROSPECTION- Cold War

Unfortunately, these suits ARE worth the price. The price they are asking for is actually somewhat reasonable, an upfront charge for any length of use.

Arnians are hard to intimidate, but he may be willing to lower the price if you have a good reason for him to do so...

I think we could try Lying. Tell him that we're not going to be here long, just picking up a shipment or whatever you want to say, Dak. I'm not sure how you are with Lying, but I'm not half bad.

Looking at my stats... I don't have Lying? ermm

Wraith, try the "We're not going to be here long" angle.

Wraith will explain to the suit-giving person that they do not intend to stay long and so that they shouldn't have to pay the full price for such a short excursion on the planet's surface.

Normally he would spit in your face as an off-worlder, but since Dak is with you, he considers it. Hesitantly, the Arnian you rent the suit from agrees to lower the price.

Meaning it is now safe for Ker'Raos and Wraith to traverse the ice fields of Arnia! Hooray!

"So... you wanted to meet with the miners?" Ker'Raos asks as your trio leaves the starport. "That officer mentioned they were holed up in the water mines."

Hooray!

"Yeah. Shouldn't be too difficult to get in. When we're dealing with the miners themselves... should probably let me do the talking."

I'm assuming the mines are fairly close by.

"No complaints there," Ker'Raos replies. "I doubt I know much in regards to diplomacy with the working class of a strange planet..."

The mines are within walking distance of the starport. The matter, really, is how you intend to get in. The main entrance to the mineshafts is currently barricaded by the Army.

Are we talking seriously barricaded with a bunch of soldiers, or like a gate and a couple sentries?

It's a mine. There's gotta be alternate exits in case of cave ins and suchlike.

Seriously barricaded as in there is a hover-tank currently parked just outside the entrance, and a portion of the armed forces are moving into the mines now...

If there are any such things, you would need to find them.

Okay, can't talk through that, then... no chance of "acquiring" that hover-tank, is there?

There wouldn't happen to be a map of the facility? If not I suppose Dak could just sort of skulk about looking for the other entrances...

Wraith will try Sensing about for it.

This being a mining town, I have no doubts that there is a bar or two million, we could send Ker'Raos off to see if he can find anyone that could tell us where to start. That, or Wraith can do that while Ker'Raos senses around.

Ker'Raos is not much of a socialite now that he has left Zeiton and refuses to go bar-hopping for information. But you could try it.

Sensing could take a great deal of time...

It seems we're in need of a jumpstart.

Sensing specifically for an entrance is an unfeasible approach; whatever is going on in the mines might well be over before you have a chance to join in. Not to mention you would be plodding through the snow for far too long. You're not sure if these environmental suits have a limit, but you don't want to test it by spending a day in the ice fields.

However, Dak is observant today. While the bulk of the Royal Forces moving into the mines are using the main entrance, it seems smaller detachments are branching off. Curious...

Hmm... all in favor of finding out where those detachments are headed? 😉

Aye, but I propose splitting up, following separate detachements, keeping in touch with comlinks. Less chance of being noticed!

Sounds good to me. Who gets the frog?

Ker'Raos thinks he should track his own group of troops, so that the three of you enter the mines from different routes.

Those will be stealth rolls to stalk the Arnian troopers into the mines. Okay with that?

I am all about stealth rolls. I will stealth circles around those troopers.

That's all fine and well, but can you stealth squares around them?

Wraith needs to invest in Intrusion at some point... but we'll give it a shot and hope for a good roll. I figure they're not looking for us and not expecting us, so that should be on our side...

Dak can try sneaking on the troopers blindfolded for all I care, as he rolled very well. You even have the advantage over Wraith and Ker'Raos, as being an Arnian makes it less difficult to traverse the ice fields that the soldiers are marching across.

Wraith, rolling with an Agility of 6 and not much else... pulls a 17 out of somewhere. A success by three, and you manage to keep tabs on your company without alerting them.

Ker'Raos sneaks off with a 10, just cutting it, but still successful.

The soldiers are heading to alternative entrances to the mines. Dak tracks his to an abandoned mineshaft that they intend to rappel down into. Wraith is led to an old trainstation that delivered equipment to the mines, with the former main entrance. Ker'Raos finds a spot where one of the tunnels had caved in, exposing the tunnel to the surface.
