STAR WARS: RETROSPECTION- Cold War

Started by Captain REX45 pages

It would be a roll to position, a roll to pull, and a roll to see how many victims die, for each individual grenade you put out there.

In that case, how many grenades do we have collectively? Because Wraith will start placing them as soon as we decide when we're starting things...

Between yourself and Dak, you have six total.

Ker'Raos proposes that, once the grenades are placed, the three of you should get into position to attack from separate angles. However you guys plan on assaulting the Arnian troops us up to you, but he plans on hanging back in one of the tunnels and playing sniper with his kinetic rifle.

If there are any other plans to be put in, now is the time.

Okay, after the grenades are in place Dak will be heading for the lone laser drill using Intrusion. If the beam it creates is able to sweep across the soldiers, he'll use it directly. If not, he'll use it to cut chunks of ice out of the walls/ceiling to fall on the soldiers.

How do you plan to sneak through the soldiers? You may be Arnian, but you don't look like a member of the Royal Army in your black robes.

The plasma drill is toward the edge of the platform, where Gremon can look down from it to the bottom of the pit. The range of the laser can definitely do either plan you decide to go with, laser-sweeping-barbeque or ice-chunk-death.

If Dak could quickly go back to the Pit of Death and grab a uniform, please.

...Unless Ker'Raos was smart enough to grab a set himself.

"I'm an amphibian, not a reptile," Ker'Raos quips.

Yeah, Dak will go back to snatch a set, then...

It takes you a moment to pick out a uniform that isn't blood-stained, but once you return to Wraith and Ker'Raos (with little time to spare!), you look the part of an Arnian soldier.

"Are we ready then?" Ker'Raos asks.

"Ready."

Is Wraith handling all the grenade placement, or what?

I think I'm going to, yeah. Ker'Raos is going to be setting up his sniper position, you're going to be sneaking into the crowd in disguise, and I'm going to be setting up grenades.

Don't worry, I'll make sure I don't blow you up. Maybe.

Just remember, without a guardian Arnian (Guarnian?) you have no cover story for even being on the planet. 😊

Yeah yeah...

We're set, then. Wraith will start rolling the grenades out there...

Alright, here it goes...

Ker'Raos departs and settles himself in one of the tunnels, making sure to have clear shots at the Arnian troops...

...whom Gremon is ordering to prepare for combat as Dak moves in. Now disguised, sneaking is not necessary; Dak can push up towards the plasma drill without trouble. Gremon steps down from it, casting a concerned glance over his men. He seems to look directly at you, but you're not sure, and he moves on, issuing orders to his officers. You're nearing the plasma drill...

... as Wraith sends the grenades out, one at a time, into the ranks. All of his rolls pass against the mundane Observation skills of the Arnian troops, and the grenades are placed!

Dak looks around, making sure no one is focused on him, then hops up to the drill controls.

Wraith, I sure hope none of those grenades are near me...

Wraith intends for the grenades to be in the centermost part of this group...

Using the Force, Wraith will Pull the pin on the first grenade, coinciding with Dak's sudden action onto the plasma drill.

So it begins.

The soldiers of the Arnian Royal Army, under Prince Gremon, are all together on the South side of the upper platforms, having just entered the main mining pit shortly before your arrival. Gremon intends to drive his soldiers downwards, giving the rebels no chance of escape.

The rebels are circled around the lowest platforms of the pit, ready to fight for their lives. As soon as you come near the edge, Dak, you see why the plasma drills are mysteriously missing. The rebels have jury-rigged them into make-shift cannons, designed to fire when they suffer power overloads. They are operated by crews of two, one to aim, one to fire.

The very bottom of the shaft has a set of high-grade blast doors, meant to hold back the water when mining is not in progress.

Dak is out in the open, while Wraith and Ker'Raos are hidden in the tunnels...

Dak and Ker'Raos act simultaneously. As Dak hops onto the mining drill, Ker'Raos fires his first shots. Taken unawares, two Arnian troops are knocked down by the kinetic rifle.

Then, Wraith detonates the first grenade with a simple Pull. A perfect 20 sees to it that four Arnians are caught inthe blast.

Surprise is yours, and the Royal Forces lose their action for this turn...

...with the exception of Gremon, who Draws his pistol and fires a double-shot in Wraith's direction. A pair of 3s is ineffectual. He has not seen you yet, but he can sense your use of the Force...

Below, the Arnian Rebel Leader rallies his companions, having heard the explosions and gunfire but not entirely sure what is going on.

"Let's go! Blister 'em! Make 'em pay for their wrongs!"

Dak, the plasma drill is up and running. No one suspects a thing.

Dak grins as the drill hums to life and fires, aiming to sweep across the Royal Troops.

Wraith is caught off-guard by the sudden return fire, but does not make any move to reveal himself just yet. Instead, he concentrates on the pins of the next two grenades and yanks them loose...

Dak, we'll use Guns for this, low though it is. You roll 15.

The drill hums as it powers up. The protective plating covering the plasma emitter slides forwards, twists, pops outward, and starts spinning to help generate power. The plasma emitter sparks and crackles as the energy builds... and the red-hot beam streaks across seven Arnians, vaporizing them instantly with its intense heat.

Wraith pulls his pins. The grenades detonate as before, taking out four apiece.

Ker'Raos fires again, snapping his attack. Another two Arnians down.

The Rebel Leader spends this turn coordinating the gunners. The plasma drills rapidly build power with the protective plating peeled back, then overload. The discharge is a burst of plasma that burns through the bottom of the upper platform. Five of the eight make-shift cannons hit dead-on, wiping out twenty soldiers and leaving melted gaps for the rebel soldiers to fire up through. In the blistering torrent of lasers, another twenty-six Royal troopers are blasted down by the rebels.

Having not yet spotted the others, Gremon decides that Dak poses the largest immediate threat. But instead of targeting Dak himself, he targets the power tank of the plasmatic drill. A pair of 14s punches through the armor of the tank, but no Dak-blasting fireball yet... though your danger sense is screaming, Dak.

The Royal troops have taken heavy casaulties in the first exchange, but now they're all set to return the favor with their heavy assault rifles...

You can only imagine what Gremon is going to do next, Dak.
