There isn't so much sand that the ship cannot pull itself out, but you are loath to start the engines.
Opening the filters clears out the engine room. The smoke billows slowly out from the freighter's rear, drifting across the dune above the ship and into the cloudless sky.
Problems abound, once you're able to look for them. A lot of stuff was knocked loose in the crash, but they can be put back easily. Bundles of wires connecting the hyperdrive to the engines have melted and will have to be completely replaced. The engine sustained some damage from the overheat, and a few parts may have to be replaced.
The real kicker is the hyperdrive. Bringing it up from the slot in the floor, you realize that this was where most of the smoke came from. The hyperdrive... seems to have exploded? What the hell?
(Hmmm. WE're stranded on tatooine and in need of a new hyperdrive... I guess we should have aimed for Mos Espa?)
"Well, we've certainly got our work cut out for us. Finding wires shouldn't be too hard, but a new hyperdrive is going to be tricky. And how the HELL does a hyperdrive core explode and not take out the whole ship? Not that I'm complaining." He sighs, looking at the mess of an engine room. "Well, let's put back what we can and get a list going of what we need to get out of here."
(Done before, I know...)
You actually have wires yourself. Wires melting happens all the time. Some of the engine parts and definitely the hyperdrive will have to be bought, earned, stolen, etcetera...
As for the hyperdrive, its been shattered by the miniature blast. It's such a sensitive piece of machinery, susceptible to any kind of damage. If you dropped it, boom, it's useless. If it, say, took a dose of radiation from a nuclear explosion not far from the ship, it could malfunction while in use...
"I hate nukes. I'm going to punch the next idiot who asks me to carry one. Make sure to remind me." Kyle goes on complaing some while he and Eerin work on the damage. When they've gone as far as they can: "Well. We better gather up supplies and head for town. Actually, I guess we better try to find out how far away we are.
(Is there any sort of emergency power we can get going to have some limited system access, like scanners/sensors?)
"Well, Eerin. What do you think? I don't like the idea of striking out across a desert planet looking for one of two town on the whole dust ball. Wanna try comms and see if we can get some info or even a ride? IT'd be risky though, considering the kind of people around here." Then something jogs his memory. "Aw, crap. There's something else. Sand People. And the Jawas. Either group will be checking us out if they saw us go down. Something else to consider."
"[I don't either. Bad idea, that. That'd be like trying to find the hives on Geonosis. If you don't know where you are or where you're looking, you won't find them.]" Eerin pauses as Kyle brings up the issue of the locals. "[Jawas aren't a problem. Sand People are.]"
Eerin will bring the comms unit online so that Kyle can send out a message, and check the sensors to see if they can pick up any nearby towns. Energy signatures and the like...

"Alright, here goes." Kyle announces. Altering his voice slightly,
"Hello? Hello? Can anyone hear me? We're crash landed on some desert world, and are in need of repairs. Can anyone help? This is Lonestar, Captain of a simple cargo vesslel, travelling with my companion Mawg. Hello? Anyone.?
