STAR WARS: RETROSPECTION- The Hunter

Not important; you will be patched up before any action comes along.

There does not seem to be anything particularly special about the wall that you fired at. Snith follows your gaze, unsure of what you are doing.

"Is it safe to be in here with you?" Snith asks. "Or is that spike gun accidentally going to go off in my chest?"

"I don't know, are you going to stop acting like I'm insane?" Rylis snaps at him, going over to look at that part of the wall closer.

"The shot ricocheted off of the wall here. That shouldn't have been possible. And...you're sure you didn't see Kyle at all?"

Snith glances over at the wall, then back at you, then back at the wall. A grin slowly creeps onto his face and he walks over to examine the wall, pushing aside a few crates as he approaches.

"Oh, brilliant!" he shouts, excitedly. "You found the compartment! You see, I knew that the compartment was in here and I know how to get it open, but I didn't know exactly where or how I could pinpoint it. But that's brilliant! It is electromagnetically sealed, probably set at a low level to keep it from being detected by any scanners. I'm sure Kyle's got a few of those installed, but this one is special.

"You said you saw Kyle, right?"

"Yeah, I did." Rylis says, completely ignoring his babbling about the compartment. "Do you have any idea how that happened?"

"A theory, which I will submit to you, my little test subject." He clears his throat. "Remember anything I told you about the Control? That little Sith toy that I'm after? You see, Darth Luunis had tooled it to smash into his victims' minds and take over. It affects the mind. But it also corrupts it, just as the Dark Side of the Force does. After awhile he no longer needed to break into his victims' minds. It became an addiction, having the Control there. Luunis himself felt it, no doubt. It was comforting having the Sith Lord dictate thoughts, no matter how vicious or cruel...

"So my point there is that it became a covetous item that affected and corrupted the minds of individuals that came into close contact with it.

"My other point is that the Dark Side is... strange. As I said, the Control corrupted. It sapped Luunis' victims of their will to resist... but I am guessing that what is really did was absorbed their life essence, almost thrived off of its use under the Sith Lord. It wanted minds to meld to its will.

"It must be starving; few have used it since the days of Darth Luunis. You could say it almost wants to be found... which is why you saw Kyle. It appealed to the thing you want most right now, and right now you want to murder that damnable smugger and be done with this assignment. And then the Control lured you here, to this wall, where we are standing."

"Okay, but it didn't effect you at all. Why would it have just bothered me?" Rylis replies, seating herself on one of the crates.

Snith looks uneasy.

"I'm, uh, not sure about that, actually," Snith says. "That puts a hole in my theory, maybe. But everything else makes sense, yes?"

"I suppose. Let's get this done with, then. I'd prefer that that doesn't happen again..."

"With pleasure..."

Snith looks over the wall for a moment, tapping in a few spots and examining every square inch. He tests the electromagnetic seal, trying to press his hand against the surface; it repulses it. You are somewhat impressed by the design, Rylis; you're no smuggler, but there is absolutely nothing to indicate that there is a secret compartment behind this wall.

Snith stops at one point near the bottom of the wall. "Uhoh, what's this..."

There is a panel near the base of the wall where some wires have been exposed and tampered with.

"Perhaps Kyle somehow discovered that part of the ship wasn't what it seemed to be?"

"I'm going to say that it called to him too," Snith says, examining the wires.

There is a slight whoosh as he plays with a few of them.

"Nothing to worry about, then. He just shut off the protective field. But his job was crap; it'll just regenerate in a few seconds. Luckily, not a problem for me..."

He returns to examining the wall. Finally he finds what he is looking for. He points to a spot on the wall where there is a miniscule hole, no larger than a pinpoint. If he hadn't shown you, you would not have seen it, Rylis.

"Interesting. I assume that will open the compartment?"

Snith nods, producing a small device from his jacket. It is shaped roughly like a data stick one would use with a USB port, about the length of your index finger. He flips open part of it; there is a button on the inside of the lid, and a needle-like piece extends from the other half. It has bumps and notches and grooves intricately carved into it which glow a dim blue.

"It's a keyhole," he says. "And I've got the key."

"Fancy. So long as that thing doesn't decide to 'call' to me again..."

"I can't say for sure what it will do," Snith says.

Keeping a finger near the keyhole in order to keep himself from losing sight of it, he raises the other hand up and, with utmost caution, slides the key into it. Snith presses the trigger-like button, and there is a whoosh as the electromagnetic shielding drops. Followed by a hiss...

"Moment of truth..." Snith says.

"Let's just get this done with..." Rylis says, keeping her eye on the compartment.

The hiss is the depressurization of the compartment beyond the wall. Once the hiss has subsided, Snith gives the key a careful turn to the right. It clicks, then he turns it once more to the right. It clicks again...

Snith withdraws the key as the compartment begins to open. Servos whine as the disused door slides up from the floor, slowly grinding its way open. Beyond is a small compartment, with barely enough room for a person to stand in.

On the floor is a little black box.

"...that little box is it?" Rylis comments, slightly disbelieving.

"What did you expect?" Snith asks, not taking his eyes off of the box.

"I don't know, but something more than that!"
