The Bible never gives a date.

Sure it does. There's just hundreds of ways to interpret different passages and numbers, so that the Apocalypse is eternally about 5 years away.

And we should be prepared.

😐

Furthermore, when said holocaust does come (there's a remote possibility something of this magnitude will happen eventually) whichever nutjob Bible interpretation that predicts that particularly year will be declared the correct one (after the fact, mind you) and followers of whoever said it first will increase in size, number, and irrational prophecies.

Also Mel Gibson will change his name to Max and fight in Thunderdome.

This part sounds promising.

The Apocalypse has been coming for about 1000 years now. Something tells me it's a myth ermm

The Bible says that no one except for God knows the exact day that Armageddon will happen 😬

So.. any Christian who says otherwise, is simply wrong.

That is of course if you believe in what the Bible says..

2012.... The North Pole melts?

I thought it was the mayas who said something big was happening in 2012.

you know how next year you have to go buy a new calendar for 2009?

Thats what the maya think will happen in 2012, only with a calendar that covers thousands of years.

There are some theologians who do say that Christianity predicts the downfall in 2012. I'm not overly knowledgeable about it, but from what I remember Jack Van Impe saying, it was based more on prophecy than on scripture, and very loosely based as well.

I think what this is a real example of is memetic drift. 2012 has become so ingrained in our culture, especially with regard to armageddon, that common items are incorporated by any group.

My question: How many suicides in december 2012?

Actually I can buy a new calendar right now... So could the mayas.

There was a crap I heard about the Fifth Sun or stuff, maybe it was my uncle making crap up.

your uncle isn't making it up, I'm sure

do a Google search for 2012, you will get everything from the spiritual awakening of our collective consciousness, to trans dimensional aliens, to even moderately plausible things like the magnetic poles of the earth flipping.

Its all nonsense and unsupported by real evidence, but it is also ambiguous enough and terrifying enough to be the exact type of thing our brains our designed to believe.

the remark about the calender was, in fact, a joke, attempting to show that it is simply the passing from one "year" to another, only years in this case are represented by thousands of years.

Well, maybe it just shows that people are afraid of time. Something terrible can always happen in the future, 2012 can be just a name for such time.

But yes, we can always go with vague and scary, like presidential primaries.

i made a thread about this already. its called survive 2012. go to it.

what if like everyother doomsday prophecy NOTHING happens

Okay, let's say that something happens. Are any of you going to prepare? Just wondering. And if you knew for sure, what would you do.

The idea of preparing for the end of the world, would mean we could survive the end of the world. If a big rock falls out of the sky, and wipes 90% of all life from the face of the Earth, then what is there to prepare for?

We have 4 more years to find this rock and do something about it. 😉

Well I had given this a lot of thought during Y2K. Not that I may survive or not, but we all have survival instincts. And if we all had a knowledge that was really true of something like this. Would any of you sit back and do nothing? Would anyone read about some survival methods like edible plants and Native American ways of surviving...Or what if all I am asking. We all have loved ones. Would we just ignore it? I am just asking what people would really do if something like this was real. I am not saying it is real...just curious.
