STAR WARS: RETROSPECTION- Brothers

Started by REXXXX46 pages

No dodge from Janus this time, but Melkor gets his shot in first. 16 and 10 for one hit of 9 damage! Janus closes in as you move away from the fountain, and rolls a 15 for 10 damage. Gunslinger is giving him a slight edge.

Arvus proves to be a wiley one as he uses a stim pack to automatically get initiative, then hits Einar with a poisonous dart! It sticks into Einar's shoulder despite his dodge (Arvus spent a Fortune point). 15 damage to Einar, and he will take damage until his poisoning is treated... but he promptly Trips Arvus, taking his next turn.

Double shot at Janus. Spend Fortune to avoid being hit.

Initiative to Melkor! Unfortunately, he rolls a 1 and a 3 for a complete miss. Janus decides to take a double-shot himself, but Melkor wisely uses a Fortune point to raise his defense without actually dodging. With a spot of luck, Melkor is missed! An inconclusive round.

With the Assassin below him, Einar proves his superiority as a soldier by performing a Coup de Grace, jabbing downward at Arvus' ribcage, intending to spit him upon the rapier. A 19 from Einar with +4 damage from his Combat schtick is 12 damage to Arvus. The rapier graves his ribcage as he rolls clear of the lethal attack and grabs his bowcaster.

There is a intense gurgle from near where Janus and Melkor are backing toward a hedge wall. The Creature! You did not finish it off! It is regenerating its wounds and getting up...

Is Creature closer to Melkor or Janus?

Janus.

But Janus sees it as well? Melkor will try to move in a way that makes Janus as close to the Creature as possible.

Hard to miss the now-roaring creature. Is Melkor attacking as he moves?

Yes, but his priority is to get farther from the Creature.

Janus is most displeased with the Creature getting up. You get the idea that he moved in to attack after thinking it dead. He keeps away from it, but shoots at you... a 4 is a miss. You shoot back with 13 and 20! A sound 16 damage to Janus as he tries to close in.

The Creature moves after you both but is not in range just yet.

Using Quick Attack and Strike of the Master, Einar begins to soundly thrash the Assassin, dealing him 15 damage. Arvus shoots back and a bolt skims your brother's shoulder, leaving a mild burn.

Shoot at Janus and dodge, make his occupied so Creature may get him!

It is going to be a roll to see who the Creature attacks. You can hedge the odds by spending a Fortune point, of course.

Spend the Fortune then!

As you scramble away from the Creature, it sees Janus. Despite lacking the facial structures required to form expressions, there is a flash of recognition, and it unleashes an ungodly shriek and lunges for Janus. The Creature rolls a disastrous 1 and misses, but Janus dodged and is distracted enough for Melkor to hit him for 8 damage. Janus rolls a 1 against you.

Einar performs another Trip on Arvus, wanting to come to the rescue.

Melkor continues shooting at Janus, keeping distance from the Creature.

The Creature decides that its efforts are not enough; both of you have caused it harm. It attempts to spew fire from its innards onto you both, but it rolls a 6, missing and scorching a nearby shrubbery.

You hit Janus again for ten damage with a 16. It throws off his aim, but he still nips you for 5 damage.

"Melkor, I was wrong!" Janus says. "I see that now! Come, help me kill the beasts in this courtyard! Then you will have your throne!"

Arvus spends this turn getting up, and Einar is en route to you.

"You really think I would agree to this? Murderer!" Shouts Melkor, shooting at Janus again. (Doubleshot).

He could consider this offer in different circumstances, but he won`t forgive the murderer of his mother.

"You really should thank me, Melkor!" Janus shouts as you shoot at him. "Your mother was wasting away in the shadow of Erengard's mountains, the shadow cast by your father and brother! She would be proud of the man you have become, even in such a short time!"

"Silence!" Einar shouts, passing halfway.

The Creature rolls a 7 and misses with his flaming breath once more, but Janus shoots at it. He misses, unfortunately, but you don't. A 20 is another ten damage... and a penalty on Janus.

Melkor wil take a step away from the Creature, shooting at Janus again.

We come out of combat time (closing the door on the d20 system for good) as a surprising explosion occurs. Your gunplay with Janus has left both of you cornered by the Creature. Unhappy that you have avoided its fire, it raises one very sharp and very lethal arm to cut you down. Instead of killing you, it yowls in pain as a rail charge hits its arm. The explosion tears it clean off.

Einar stops running and looks back to see that Arvus has regained his railgun. Without letting his eyes stray from the target, Arvus shoots the beast again. This charge hits it square in the back, causing it to stumble forward.

It is enough of a distraction for Janus. He spends a Fortune point to defend against your shot as he makes a run for it, toward a gap in the hedges. You roll an 18... your aim is true! Even with his efforts, you knick him for 6 more damage... a -2 penalty to his aim, as a bolt burns across his gun hand. He drops it and runs, vanishing from sight.

The Creature is dragging itself up to face Arvus as this happens. It roars defiantly at the Assassin... only for its foe to land a rail charge directly in its throat. Its skull explodes in a violent flash of fire, scattering across the courtyard.

"After him!" Einar shouts to you. "He mustn't escape!"

Indeed, Melkor will sprint after Janus, ignoring Arvus.
