We come out of combat time (closing the door on the d20 system for good) as a surprising explosion occurs. Your gunplay with Janus has left both of you cornered by the Creature. Unhappy that you have avoided its fire, it raises one very sharp and very lethal arm to cut you down. Instead of killing you, it yowls in pain as a rail charge hits its arm. The explosion tears it clean off.
Einar stops running and looks back to see that Arvus has regained his railgun. Without letting his eyes stray from the target, Arvus shoots the beast again. This charge hits it square in the back, causing it to stumble forward.
It is enough of a distraction for Janus. He spends a Fortune point to defend against your shot as he makes a run for it, toward a gap in the hedges. You roll an 18... your aim is true! Even with his efforts, you knick him for 6 more damage... a -2 penalty to his aim, as a bolt burns across his gun hand. He drops it and runs, vanishing from sight.
The Creature is dragging itself up to face Arvus as this happens. It roars defiantly at the Assassin... only for its foe to land a rail charge directly in its throat. Its skull explodes in a violent flash of fire, scattering across the courtyard.
"After him!" Einar shouts to you. "He mustn't escape!"
