Thor separated the bomb from where it could start the chain reaction. Photon blew one bomb up without anything happening, surfer blew another one and cap destroyed another one starting to go off without blowing up 1/5th of the universe. All point to one fact, the life bomb on itself was nothing. Thor still died when it blew up though.

The chain reaction he was talking about was about the big bang it was meant to create, not the 5th of the universe being destroyed.
"The chain reaction will result in a big bang"

Also, how do you explain the bomb blowing up on its own causing the "chain reaction to instantly erase a 5th of the universe", but not the bombs being blown up causing "the chain reaction to instantly erase a 5th of the universe"?
Is it because the bombs need to blow up on their own to be lethal to the universe like they did to Thor and Iron Man?
It was literally never said that the singular bombs needed a chain reaction. It was literally said that the chain reaction would cause a big bang. Was there a big bang? Figuratively, yes, but not the big bang needed to cause the end of the universe. Like I mean, there was a big bang, but not THE Big Bang. And I think this is where you're stuck.
