Gabriel returns with Officer Valru shortly, having cooled his jets.
"Sorry," Gabe says as he comes back in. "Kardir made the same offer to me. It disgusts me."
"We'd better go over the security situation with you," Valru tells you, Roan. "So that, if any attacks by the Red Rain are mounted against the Capital Building, you can know how to cast them off."
-
The arrangement is simple.
Though the Capital Building is the highest structure in Coronet, it is arranged into levels for simplicity's sake- the Top Level, the Upper Levels, the Middle Levels, the Lower Levels, and the Sub Levels.
The Top Level is the roof of the building, where there is a landing pad. Upon it is an escape shuttle for the Diktat, should it become necessary. It is also lined with turbolasers for anti-aircraft defenses.
The Upper Levels are where the Diktat, the Senator, the other politicians, and their families will be staying. It contains private quarters. There will be a light patrol of CorSec guards up here; they figure they can do more good elsewhere. You will be up here.
The Middle Levels are largely administrative offices, also lightly patrolled.
The Lower Levels are where the highest concentration of CorSec officers will be, both inside the building and outside. They are just more administrative offices and meeting rooms.
The Sub Levels are storage areas for the government... but also has a secret escape route on foot for the Diktat. Said escape route is well hidden and leads out of the city via tram.
All levels possess scanners requiring you to have in the chip implant. Only the Lower Levels and the Sub Level escape route have turrets to deal with those that don't have them, though.
Gabriel is happy to answer any questions.
Gabriel says he can have something put together for the purpose of portable scanner notifications.
There are lifts that you can take from the upper levels to the sub levels, and an emergency lift that does the same.
You can see all of Coronet and the mountains beyond through the windows, at least from the upper levels. There are less windows on the lower stories for defensive reasons, though all the windows are laser-reflective (they'll hold up if shot at).
Gabriel ensures that security is maintained within the Capital Building. He informs you that the majority of CorSec is now forming a blockade around the building to prevent any attacks on the ground. CorSec also has fighters ready to deploy. Gabriel is sure they won't be needed, it is just a necessary precaution.
The night passes quietly and you catch some rest. But not much. Though you and Sunda sleep soundly, you are awakened when Sky Ninabu awakes you with a gentle shake.
"Roan, wake," she whispers.
She relays the dream to you... or tries. It is mainly a series of jumbled images, which is concerning as Sky uses Foresight:
-
The explosion at the starport was not the first. It sets off explosions around it, like a chain of dynamite that starts to engulf all of Corellia over time. Each explosion indicates an event that moves Corellia toward independence, but you cannot see what they are. The events are... clouded.
But one leaks through. Sunda cries out for help as he is pulled away.
-
"My vision is clouded," Sky admits. "That is my greatest concern."
All is well. Coronet is calm tonight and all in the Capital Building sleep soundly but for the CorSec guards on duty and, of course, you and Sky. Eventually, you return to bed, satisfied that nothing is amiss.
The next morning, there is a call from CorSec headquarters that gets Gabriel and Valru excited.
"We have a lead," Gabriel informs you.
"The Cultist that you captured that the starport was encouraged to talk," Valru says. "It took longer than it would have with more 'persuasive' methods, but Bren got him to feed us some information. The Cultist's name is Reffield Dosk, a generic low-life with long list of theft charges to his record."
"But never an armed assault charge," Gabriel interjects. "He's more the 'break into your speeder and steal your radio' type."
"So Bren asked him where he and his pals that busted up the starport got their weapons. He didn't give us any names. But our lead is that they came from the Garban colony."
Garban is a Republic world that does not participate in the Senate, due to the Jenet (the tribes of humanoids that live on Garban) favoring isolation and self-preservation. However, the Jenet are renowned hunters and marksmen who hire themselves out for mercenary work, so they are not entirely unaware of the Galaxy around them.
You heard that they were recently experiencing a deadly famine on Garban and that the Republic was supplying what aid it could to the Jenet. You do not know what the colony is.
Your guess turns out to be correct. The way Gabriel explains it, the star that Garban orbits has expanded as part of its cycle. The heat has made Garban nearly unliveable and cannot sustain the Jenet way of life for much longer, starting with this famine.
"It was the Abbot Sienar of the Synod of Ferradyne that recommended that the temporary colony and helped the Senate organize its construction," Gabriel explains. "Somehow the relief efforts weren't doing enough. I can understand the need to help the Jenet- their numbers are few and their possessions fewer. But damn if it hasn't put more unnecessary strain on Corellia. The Jenet lived outside of Republic laws for way too long. It's hard to get them to respect them."
The Garban colony is little more than a shanty town that the Jenet exist in. Corellia has provided as much as they can for the Jenet.
"Sounds like we have proof of the Jenet pawning off their weapons," Valru says. "An illegal underground smuggling operation, just like you said, Gabe."
"Figures," Gabriel says. "The minute the Senate revoked our right to patrol the colony, the anarchists take advantage."
