So you want Dr. Strange without any prior knowledge of the passed 8 years? I still don't understand why you would want that.

Personally, to me, Dr. Strange is still the same person as he was all those years ago. Even in the most recent World War Hulk, he admitted that he could snuff out Hulk's life in an instant if he chose to do so.

It's not like anyone is going to pull out a scan of World War Hulk crushing Dr. Strange's hands and say "HA! You drafted a weak punk Dr. Strange. I am not voting for you King Kandy!"

We all know what Dr. Strange is capable of. We know his potential, and while he has had debatable low-end showings in recent years, that doesn't take away from who he is or what he CAN do.

Theres a scan floating around (Avengers?) where Strange admits he cannot do what he used to, and his magic has not been as strong lately.

It's just not that important.

But there are no feats to back it up.

Actually, I think that's exactly what they will do. The main strategy of my opposition will probably be along the lines of "Yeah, but can CURRENT Strange do that?"

Actually it does. He admits that his power is less then it used to be.

So, in summary I would like to Draft Classic Strange, that is the Strange that appeared before 2000.

Maybe...now this is just speculation on my part....it is because in that Illuminati Final Issue, which takes place immediately after World War Hulk, everyone is recovering from Hulk beating the hell out of them? Dr. Strange included, since Hulk literally, crushed the bones in his hands. The guy is still only human and he uses his hands for everything. If he hand to hold his hands and fingers in a certain position for a spell, and Hulk crushed his hands not too long, hey my magic would be weaker too.

Like I said, its not like I am going to say, "HA! King Kandy Dr. Strange has broken and weak hands! You're plan will fail because of Illuminati Issue #5!."

Sheesh, then for the sake of this tournament, his hands are fixed and the good Doctor is doing fine.

So is Classic Fate good too?

Kandy, you have to understand. Even if you were to go as far as you want, people will find low-showings for any character.

For example, you say the year 2000? Why? Because there are no low showings for Dr. Strange before that year?

What about Namor breaking the Crimson Bands of Cytorak in Marvel Team-Up II#8 in April 1998?

Or

Hulk defeating the bands as well in Issue Incredible Hulk I#450 In February 1997?

Or

What about when Dr. Strange losing his position as Sorcerer Supreme in the Mid-1990s?

What matters is how well you debate your character and your plan. Picking the best character in the world means nothing if you can't come up with a strategy, plan, or even debate your point across for the whole forum to see. I am sure even if you had current strange, you still could argue he is still capable.

DC characters jump all over the place in power like its a bad fashion trend, so I am forced to designate specific character versions.

For now just stick with Regular Hector Hall "Non-Nabu Possessed" version.

K

now that thats settled, when do we lock horns?

I argue against Metron. Take the mobius chair if you insist. I don't need it.

But Metron himself is well within the limits.

how is metron ripped when all he does is sit in a chair all day?

I think it was in NewAvengers actually. Long before Hulk did anything to his hands.

It's a comic book. everyone looks good in comic books except for the fewer ones who don't because they're supposed to not. but most major and supporting characters look good.

I really just want to get this tournament started already. This is really way take too long. 30 Pages and it hasn't even started yet. I ask that you respect my decisions, and simply move foward.

To clear things up:

Evangel has stated several times that there is no differentiation between Classic and Current Strange.

So, whether he's genuinely weaker, or still capable of everything he was before, is a matter to be brought up in the debate.

If you want Dr. Strange, you get all showings, both good and bad. Call that whatever you want. Why don't you just draft Baron Mordo or Loki. Considering Loki has beaten Dr. Strange in magic before, and isn't afraid to use the dark arts, then it isn't problem.

Metron has been objected and complained about, so I can't allow him. If you want tech, then just pick Reed Richards, Tony Stark, or even Stonecutter. Or alternatively a DC tech head. I even allowed Post-Crisis Darkseid, the very guy you said would dominate in this tournament, for 20 points. He's there if you want him.

Updated List of Participants.

Tournament Director and Host: Evangel94

Emergency Sub-Directors: Badabing

1. King Kandy
2. Devil Lance
3. Papa Smurph
4. Darthgoober
5. Symmetric Chaos
6. SmurphSmash!
7. Tony Stark
8. Psycho Gundam
9. id369
10. TricksterPriest
11. Creshosk
12. Digimark007
14. Evangel94 - Casual matches only

I officially remove Capt Spaulding and Mr. Biscuits from the list. The sooner everyone who has a character in question can pick some new characters, the sooner I can create a schedule and start matches.

^ Meant 13. For myself.

Evangel, if you still mantain there's no difference, why did you act like I could use only pre-2000 showings? Just to watch me squirm and then change your policy again? I find it very insulting that you would do something like that, it's like dangling a carrot in front of a horse and then yanking it away.

One person complained about Metron. Do I have to answer to one person for my picks? kandy, given the nature of this tournament, there is really no point in objecting.

I consider it hypocrisy that one person's complaint about my guy is enough to get him banned. I agreed to forfeit the chair.

And I said 3 times DS is not part of my strategy, so do not patronize me.

And the time travel thing is a joke. Most of the 6 pointers are capable of travel through time and space. Dr. Strange in particular, was a master of time manipulation. The chair does not permit manipulation of time, only travel via a spacial logic warp. in effect, just a better version of the boom tube tech that any new god has.

Surfer as well, has traveled through time. Dr Fate, Green Lanterns, it's not as uncommon as you think. Dr. Doom has a time machine in his labs somewhere, as does Richards.

So why is Metron the only one you seem to be objecting to? Dis-bar the chair if you insist, but Metron himself is in the limits and you are letting a single person's objection throw out a legitimate character.

As much as I hate to say it Trickster has a valid point. I doubt anybody had any objection to Metron himself anyway, the Chair is the only thing about him that could be used to make the slightest argument against using Metron.

I was only against his standard equipment including the mobius chair, not Metron himself.
