I finally beat the game a few hours ago. Overall it was an awesome experience but I think I still like the first one a bit better (even with the blatant "Pitch Black" rip off)
This game just lacked something that I can't quite put my finger on. Maybe the changes from the first game were a bit too subtle or maybe I was expecting it to be a bit more epic altogether. And as far as multiplayer goes, I am not a big fan of the levels with the exception of River and Avalanche. The rest seem a bit mediocre, but thank god the developers put up the map pack from the original game. However horde mode is awesome. I got up to level 28 and died with one guy left to kill

Yeah, i thought the developers did a great job at creating a new experience while keeping the game play and tone very familiar to the first game. The differences from Gears 1 and Gears 2 are very slight but those changes develop through out the game until you fully realize them. I think the new level designs are probably the most noticable. With the addition of the interactive levels set on rails, ex...,The vehicles, creatures and Brumaks. The takes on a more epic feel.My favorite additions were the inclusion of shields and the ability to take enemies as body shields as well as the ability to plant grenades on enemies or objects. The first Gears forced you to play the game in a very specific manner incorporating the strategy of taking cover and waiting for your shot. With the addition of the shields and the ability to plant grenades on enemies you had more freedom to decide when you wanted to take cover or run and gun. In the later levels when you were able to get shields from enemies. I was an unstoppable killing machine lol
I didn't like using the shield much. too limiting. i'd rather take cover. the body shield thing was fun though. (and fresh) follwed by the merciless neck snap..
too bad it didn't win game of the month on game informer. some kids' game on the wii took it, lol. hey. w/e.
my fav gun was the rocket launcher hand gun and the sniper rifle. it would've been nice to have that "dawn" gun and a usable weapon like it was in pt 1.

The Wii sucks 😂
Yeah, the shield is a bit limiting but if you have the hordes handgun that fires like a tech-9 you can wreck shit. I was a bit disappointed with the Hammer of Dawn but i think the Mortar gun was better.

You can't use the shield in an unrealistic way either, which I thought was good.Obviously when holding something as heavy as that, you aren't going to be able to use a shotgun or Lancer, so it's good that they only let you use a pistol.

I see what you mean. To me though the realiam that made the shield too limiting was why I wasn't too exciting about wielding it because of the type of player I am. I want to be able to move fast and front flip or side flip and take cover fast and move from there to another cover, reload very fast and shoot from both sides of my cover if I have too then rinse and repeat untill all grubs are dead..
I didn't like the shield cause it slowed me down in every way in battle and I was still getting hit a bit and firepower wasn't as significant cause you could'nt carry a BFG like I always like too.

ha, the wii does suck..
they get the award for worst video game commercial of the year for that "you are my enemy" COD5 commercial with those 2 wii-gun toting emos with serious/mean looks on their faces..
it looked like an old duck hunt NES commercial just with redesigned light zappers, lol... with "world @ war" looking just god-awful and choppy as hell.

On the topic of Gears two, how do you beat the Hydra?
I'm pretty sure you just shoot its tentacles when they latch on to you and then the thing will fly behind you so spin around and send a missle directly to its face. That repeats a couple times probably, but its pretty simple

Yeah, that's why it's tactical. Shield gives you cover, but sacrifices mobility. That's generally how warfare works.
I used to get hit a lot, too, but you have to turn to the side a bit, like, actually angle the shield.

In multiplayer you are hard pressed to kill a shield wielding opponent alone.
The shield is fine and like AC said its just a tactital option, and just like rages said it all depends if you like that kind of tatic.
Too bad the FKN shotgun glitch ruins it. Hopefully Epic will patch it soon. The shield/shotgun glitch reminds me of the roadie run glitch in GoW1
