I don't know if I'd call Predator that a great film, but it was one of the films I grew up on as a child. No, it's not Shawshank Redemption, but it isn't on par with the first two Teminator films or District 9 for that matter. Everything else was pretty cliche and formulaic. Granted, they may have handled it better than alot of previous films, but still.....the story wasn't groundbreakingly original.I by no means think of Predator as a film that no sequel or reboot can potentially surpass. It wasn't that great a film. Same with Batman 89. It got alot of publicity and hype because it was Batman. But at the end of the day, it wasn't that great. Batman Returns is awfully close to matching it. Same with Predator 2 coming really close to matching the first film.
I think this new film could surpass the first film. It seems to have a good cast and a good director. We will see.
Given a choice to watch terminator, t2 or predator i will probably watch predator.

(You honestly couldn't figure that one on your own? Of course everyone knows who Adrien Brody is. And Danny Trejo has always just been a character-actor who only plays thugs anyway.)

Adrien Brody is more famous than any of those other ones I listed like Brian Steele or any of those other not-so-famous ones who are probably just gonna die in the movie anyway. The big stars will shine, but the other ones will just be cannon fodder for the Predators and probably aint even relevant to the plot.
