cube, i think you're taking those references you're citing to literally. in the past, thor has been unable to hit spidey or quicksilver, and even the f'n mongoose made his life a momentary hell! certainly thor is quicker than a normal person, but supes's is out of his league in fighting speed. that's not to say thor can't hit him, of course, just that i don't think thor's speed is what you believe it to be.
the magic is an issue, but supes has battled magic and beaten it in the past. supes's weaknesses are often overblown on this forum.
thor coulod win this, but it would be as far from 'easy' as it gets. read his fight with asmodel, the guy that WRECKED the entire jla then get back to me about 'magic's effectiveness. but . . . thor is a god and among my favourites. supes is stronger than diana, who is stronger than hercules who is at least as strong (probably slightly stronger) than thor. so supes i think has a fair strength advantage, plus a speed advantage in battle. thor has magic and godforce - VERY powerful, but at times supes transcends his own already awesome powers and becomes this sort of unbeatable icon. this match up can go either way. in 10 fights, they each win 5. call that a cop out if you want, but that's how i see it.

Asmodel was rouge, and severely weakened. He was nowhere near his true power when Superman wrestled him.
Taking the citations too literally? The writers are portraying Thor's speed, which doesn't often happen. Thor is able to match any speedster and effectively counter this advantage. He doesn't use his speed against Quicksilver because he doesn't have to. Against someone like Superman who would be taking an unfair advantage, he would subconsciously matches his speed so as to make it a fair fight.
Thor has matched speed with Nefaria, who is easily as fast as Superman.
Thor being as swift as lightning isn't an exaggeration.
I actually have the comic in which he fights Mongoose. Thor was effortlessly matching his speed.
Mongoose: "You can't keep this pace up forever, Thor! It's only a matter of time before you fall in an exhausted heap! You'll never be able to stop me...because I'm just too fast for you!"
Thor: "Thou art mad, mortal! I am Thor, God of Thunder--and I wield forces which are inconceivable to man! My mystic mallet can attain velocities which are beyond your ability to grasp! Do not presume to speak to me of speed, villain! The speed of the unleashed wind is mine to command! The power and fury of the raging hurricane is subject to my will! I am the Lord of the Storm--and thou art only a hapless mortal!"
Mongoose: " I don't believe it--! His throw was so accurate that he managed to catch my ankle within his hammer's thong! Oh, no! I slipped free--and the hammer is returning to Thor as if it were alive!"
And that was the end of Mongoose. Superman isn't as fast as you think he is. Thor could easily match his speed, and his strength. Magic takes away all possibilities of Superman winning.
Instead of a "strength hierarchy", Let's compare feats of strength.
Superman moved War World, which was the size of Pluto.
Thor lifted and threw Twilight, which had the mass of a white dwarf.
Do you really think Superman is stronger?
It's amazing. I provide evidence of Thor's superspeed, and you dismiss it as hyperbole.

AS far as Thor's strength goes... when the Midgard Serpent was in a cat disguise, Loki tried to get Thor to lift it and Thor tried his hardest but could not get all 4 of the cats legs off the ground. The Midgard Serpent weighs as much as Earth.
Mjolnir is capable fo going those speeds... he does nto travel the speed of light... his hammer creates a warp of some sort.
Anyone who doesn't think Thor can match Superman's speed should read Thor #354, or Blood and Thunder.
Even Hela, the Goddess of Death was unable to keep speed with an angry Thor.
Thor: "Too slow, Death Goddess! For mine is the swiftness of the very lightning itself! And the fury of the elements is as nothing to the fury of Thor this day!"
Hela: [thinks to herself] "Never before hath the Thunder God been so like a raging juggernaut! His speed, his anger, are beyond comprehension! I cannot stop him! I cannot touch him!"
Thor uses his speed when he needs to, much like Superman.
Superman wasn't able to catch a bullet. To say that he is leagues above Thor in speed is just being ignorant of proven facts.
are you kidding me? in one of supermans comics... when he was fighting conduit, there was a guy that kept teleporting around. when he opened up a teleport, superman used a metal railing to tie his feet and then went to where the portal opened and tied his hands there. YOu have to be pretty fast to do that.
Thor exhbits this level of strength often CC? not in my opinion 😄 Can we say typical continuity problems 😄 When we think of some of the things his struggled with same goes for the speed!! Poor writing does that 😄. Post Crisis supes strength is inconsistant at times but nowhere near this level 😄 Supes is faster and stronger 😄

Thor was able to lift Twilight when he absolutely had to. Using all of his power, he lifted and threw it. That speaks volumes about his strength. In order to be equal in strength to Superman, all Thor would have to do is move the Midgard Serpent, which he did.
Thor is not capable of moving at greater than light speed. However, he is capable of moving, fighting, and even running at lightning speed. lightning is considerably slower than light, but Thor's speed takes away Superman's speed advantage. With Mjolnir, Thor can fly faster than light.
Without Mjolnir, Thor is a good match for Superman, (except for the fact that he can't fly.) With Mjolnir, he is almost insured victory.

No. Neither does Superman. Thor was pushed to his limits.

Thor lifting Twilight was in continuity.

He doesn't always use his super speed. Only when he needs to, like Superman. If you want to talk about struggling, Superman was unable to catch a bullet.

You can't dismiss Thor lifting Twilight, or moving at the speed of lightning as bad writing.

Has post crisis Superman done anything that exceeds moving War World? (Superman was powered up when he moved War World, mind you.)
Superman is neither stronger nor faster.

Thor was able to tie Mjolnir's thong around Juggernaut's hand, spin Mjolnir, and throw Juggernaut into space all before Juggernaut realized what had happened. You have to be pretty fast to do that.

So far, I have proven that Thor is just as fast as Superman in fighting speed. Thor is just as strong as Superman, if not stronger. Thor has Superman's weaknesses: Magic. Thor has divine Magic, which was capable of driving off Galactus himself. If Thor goes all out, he'll kill Superman.
He'll lose. 🙂 Hes not fast enough to keep up with Superman. And Superman took on countless magical beings. Galactus was very weaken when he did that. 🙂
<<To say that he is leagues above Thor in speed is just being ignorant of proven facts.>>
no, cube, just your interpretations of the facts. i'm not saying that to be snide. i don't think thor was moving at a literal 'lightning' speed, nor do i think twight was literally made of white dwarf material, hence making the sword weigh MORE than the sun which has a mass (about 2x10 to the 30th power!!) millions of times the mass of the earth! to think thor - or anyone, is capable of lifting that much weight is ridiculous. nor do i think thor has 'superspeed'. he can fly at superspeed. hela's saying he is too fast means little to me, because i don't think SHE has superspeed either. i've said thor is fast - faster than normal, but supes is faster. and i'd love to know the whole bullet story. where was he coming from when he tried to block it? was it a special bullet? was supes hurt? context would help your cause, cube. supes has clearly demonstrated superspeed on NUMEROUS occasions. these examples do not need to be inferred from, nor are they based on the literal interpretations of a character in the story. they are shown in the artwork and are clearly represented/expressed AS feats of superspeed. thor almost never does things that are likewise acknowledged. thor is often said to be 'faster than you think'. that is not the same as the speed supes clearly demonstrates on a regular basis.
thor is strong, i think supes is stronger. thor is fast, i think supes is faster. thor has magic to even things up, plus he has 1000's of years as a warrior to call upon. both are capable at times of doing more than their bios show. i see this as a dead heat.

Thor is as fast as lightning itself. Adam Warlock said it. Read Blood and Thunder. Superman isn't fast enough to catch a bullet.
What "countless magical beings?" Elaborate? Last time I checked, CM's lightning made him bleed from his eyes and nose. Superman had to submit.
Regardless, It was Galactus.

Uh... Surtur literally made Twilight from a white dwarf star in the middle of the Galaxy. This is a comic book. The impossible is possible. To throw this feat out of the window is completely unfair.
Thor has said he can move at the speed of lightning itself. So has Adam Warlock. Thor was able to keep speed with Count Nefaria and The Silver Surfer, both of whom had superspeed. What do you have to say of a disorientated Thor deflecting Phoenix's psibolt when it was 2 feet away from his face? Or Thor being able to tie Mjolnir's thong around Juggernaut's hand, spin Mjolnir, and throw Juggernaut into space all before Juggernaut realized what had happened. Both require super speed.
Superman's greatest feat of strength is moving a Pluto-sized planet. Thor lifted (at least in part) the Midgard Serpent in the form of a cat. The midgard serpent weighs as much as the Earth itself. Thor moving the Midgard serpent would suggest that he is the stronger. How do you figure Superman is stronger?
Superman does not always demonstrate his superspeed. Only when he needs to, like Thor.
