That is basically how the story unfolded. Blade didn't really want the mission which is why during the fight he was using attacks he knew wouldn't put Logan down for the count. He was just waiting for the right moment to strike. When Blade used his speed to put logan in a tight spot it was over. One Blade realized he owed Logan he backed off. I don't see why people argue this as that was the writers intentions or he would never wasted time with the backstory.

Logan told Blade to inject him.............if blade had best cases scenerio Logan vamps out and blade still dies......or cases scnerio logan does not vamp out wolverine simply gets pissed and kills him any way. or simply toy with him so more.

It was a bad plan. Since he received intel about Wolverine's powers from shield, he was taking a big risk getting pinned down, within claws reach, and trying to use a serum to turn him into a vampire so he could try to kill him. For all he knew it could turn him, or the odds are quite good he could fight it off even if it took some time. Wolverine looked pretty confident that it wouldn't work with that smile... and that speaks volumes.
