quasar has done something similar with the q-bands already. in an alternate reality vulcan manipulated the energy of the makkran crystal i think. non-canon, but still--some indication of what marvel feels he may be capable of. i'd love to see him reach his potential. since everything is energy there really wouldn't be anything he couldn't do.

I think that is misleading, I don't think magical beings compete with the control Vulcan has of magical energies, Vulcan cannot do anything "magical" with the energies he wields, they become just another wave length energy to manipulate, they lose the cohesion that creates a minor reality shift that we call magic. As such I don't think it would come as "having more control than Vulcan" or "wrestling the energy from him" but more like, producing more energy than Vulcan is able to manipulate at once and to keep the magical effect wanted by a more complex enchantment.
One way or another, a strong magician could surpass Vulcan without much problem if he has enough power.
