Batman R.I.P.

Started by Raoul25 pages

the only issue that actually interested me was the finale of the hush-selina thing... apart from that, i think batman RIP was a mess and that morrison blew it big time...

and yes, i know he didn't write the selina issue... 😖

yeah its over....and not bein melodramatic or anything but i didnt see the need for it at all...and i still couldnt figure out if joker was a regualr guy who uses a formula to transform or what...confused is the word im trying to find

it seems so pointless because he wad one in by a helicopter exploding . thats such a random way that it makes having a whole arc about it seem retarted

😕

ok since no one gets what im talking about..in the 1st or 2nd issue there about, we saw a dude walk in that the black glove ppl brought in then he mentions something about you see me as a surgeon and a family man but this is the only time i can be myself and that i have to hide my true self from society(paraphrasing of course)...then he either pours or sprays somthing on himself...then boom! he transforms into the joker complete with smile and evrything and immediaatley commences killing ppl

so yeah...thats why i was wondering if this was the real joker..meaning that he actually as a secret ID...and he can just change back and forth like jack ryder, or is this some random surgeon family man guy that has special rich ppl joker juice/venom that makes him think he is the joker or can be a reasonable copy of him at the very least

...

What ?

Can I get an issue #?

im soory not the 1st or 2nd....more like within the last 3 issues

Er, are you talking about the Hunchback Doctor? Le Bosse, I think?

He's just... talking to the Joker. He never turns into the Joker. The dialogue and the art makes that pretty clear.

ok it seemed that as a result of my shitty monitor which is woefully dark i may have misinterpreted but im still not so sure...but ive tracked it down ish #680

ok so dude shows and gives his speech he swallows a capsule of some sort, he starts to transform then right at the bottom we see joker's face materializes

then boom here comes joker....this is where i get confused maybe im slow(which is not out of the question)

admittedly this is a few panels later

Look at the second scan, you see the man talking sliding on the hunchback mask. The Jokers head appearing is Joker emerging from a dark hallway to talk to him.

Looking at pictures is for newbs. I just read the words and complain about stupid things.

.

\I'm borrowing this piece from a commentator called "Timothy Burke" on the Invincible Super Blog at this post: http://www.the-isb.com/?p=842#comments, which also contains a truly excellent review of the final issue of RIP. It's what I've felt myself, but I think it puts it succinctly, and so I'm borrowing it. If Mr. Burke comes across it, thank you, and I hope you don't mind.

"

So this is what I take Morrison to be playing around with in his “game-changing shift”: that when Bruce next takes up the mantle of Batman, it’s going to finally be Bruce Wayne as the real man, Batman the performance–that Morrison is ultimately going to try past the Batman-as-crazy, Batman-the-real-person characterization of the past two decades. Because Bruce is going to have to face the fact that allowing Batman to become the real person allowed evil and madness into his own mind. Batman always thinks of everything: so he’s going to have to realize that being Batman means not being Batman the way that he’s *been* Batman most of his life.

Which puts another twist on rest-in-peace: maybe Bruce is going to make peace with being Batman, to be a much more serene or contented kind of Batman. Not a Batman who knows only madness and death."

It's a good analysis, especially when you consider Morrison as the man behind "Arkaham Asylum" one of the places (along with "Dark Knight Returns" and others) where the whole idea of "Bruce Wayne" being the costume and "Batman" being the real identity became strongly wrapped up in the mythos. Various villains, with Batman in their grasp, propose taking off his mask to find out who he "really" is. The Joker ridicules them for their pedestrian plan: Batman really is the mask, and whoever's under it doesn't really matter.

It seems like Morrison is asking us to adopt a new way of looking at Batman, vying away from that view that the personality of Bruce Wayne is entirely a front: something that I think Johns and Robinson have been taking pains to do with Superman, which is that Superman really is Clark Kent- not the other way around. Humanizing him, giving him a child, even if only for a little while, and playing up the Daily Planet supporting cast reminds us that Superman is not Clark's "true" persona.

That's just lame man. Bruce Wayne is Batman. Everybody knows this. Bruce Wayne is the disguise. Morrison doesn't need to do anything to change this or point it out. He should have just wrote a great story about the death of Batman - if that's what he was setting out to do. When Brubaker wrote the death of Cap, he sure didn't spend a lot of time deciding on who Captain America was supposed to be, he just killed the guy. With that said, do we really need to see another sidekick take over the mantle of his mentor this soon after Bucky became Cap?

Let's just face facts here. This whole arc is a testament to the fact that a) Morrison just screwed us and b) DC's continuity problems are so large right now, what's going on in every book has nothing to do with any other book. That includes Final Crisis. It's like everything is a "What if" or something and just happens to include characters from DC comics.

Like if some people just decided to make a video game with someone from, I don't know... Capcom or Mortal Kombat... and just decided to throw in some DC characters - oh wait... they've done that. Hmmm...

Yeah, that video game could just as easily be a DC Comic book and it have just as much place in our current continuity.

Just.
Ridiculous.

Even a blind person can see that Morrison further cements the fact that only Bruce Wayne can ever be Batman in his run, aswell as subtly pointing this out in interviews. There won't be a new Batman or, at least, not for a long period of time.

I think the way DC is going to take this is that Dick Grayson will be a NEW Batman.

Kind of like how Bucky is the new Cap. Sure he has the same title as Steve, but he isn't the same.
