The point of the character is that he loves AMERICA AND ITS IDEALS enough to do so. That's what he stands for. Not because he just loves helping people in general. That's what Superman is for. He's the super-humanitarian, not Captain AMERICA. He stands by the Constitution and the Stars and Stripes. That's his gimmick.

Captain America is the epitome of a man who loves his country and its ideals.

But he is not a blind patriot. He stands by America as an ideal; he's more than willing to challenge those in power if what he thinks they are doing is wrong. So his values are more to do with human ones, than narrowly defined American ones.

Yeah totally!

I mean, aside from when he was fighting against his own government and on the lamb and.... you know... all that.

I like the look of the costume, looks kinda world war 2 era 🙂 For the Avenger movie though I'm hoping they change it to how it is now when it was changed or whatever. I can see why they would use that costume considering this is set during world war 2. I look forward to images of the red skull and his look, the actor they have portraying him should be good in the role...he has a red skull look about him.

You know they can't be too over the top with the patriotism angle, when they want to consider worldwide box office. We have a character literally wearing the American flag, with America in his title. They want casual fans in other countries to come to the theatre.

He doesn't stand for Congress, or the President. It's not political. He's a patriot who loves his COUNTRY and its IDEALS, not his GOVERNMENT. He's not Superman, who is pure humanitarian, he's got a devotion to his COUNTRY and its IDEALS. That's the definition of patriotism, and that's what Captain America is. Take the patriotism out of Captain America, and he's not Captain America. He'd be:

Constitution = Government. Stars and Stripes = Government.

You're creating a difference that doesn't exist.

If that was true, Steve wouldn't have fought his government during the Civil War, or resigned as Captain America in the late 1980's when they tried to dictate his duty to him (that was how John Walker was given the job.) During the Born Again storyline in Daredevil, when he assisted in uncovering Agent Nuke and a corrupt General, he gets rebuffed of asking questions with statements like "We've always respected your dedication, Captain...and your patriotism..."
To which Cap responds "I'm loyal to nothing, General...except the dream." - touching a flag while saying it.
It will be a little different in the WW2 period, because he knows he has to follow orders, but not dramatically.

I'm not sure how that makes what I said wrong...

It makes sense if you understand English.

You're saying the government always equals the constitution and the American ideal. I have given clear examples of that not being the case, that Steve's pursuit of a higher ideal > the government. They are not equal in his mind.

Found out Sega is doing the game tie-in

Why Marvel??....sega is shit at these tie-ins stick with Raven Software.

Looking good, better not be cheesy.

The thought of him as Cap is constintly increasing in how fast n boldly it makes me more n more nauseous.

Shoulda been Chris Pine, or at least someone much much better than Evans! 😠

Yes because Cap needs a great actor to play his role instead of looks. I think they got Hugo and Chris mixed up in their roles!

Ok, I NEED to know how Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans work out!

And which part Hugo should've played??

The other day I remembered this was not only being made but being filmed. But I didn't picture the actor or Captain America, I pictured those big rubber feet he was wearing in those pictures.

on a related note, i think Chris Evans can fill the role properly.

Yeah. Compared to Evans, how did John Krasinski ever become a serious candidate??

Wonder what films to look for this Christmas for the first trailer...something from Disney or Parmaount, maybe...
Three years ago, the Iron Man trailer was shown before 'I Am Legend.'
