It demonstrates matter/energy manipulation. But did those beings resist the Lantern's efforts? Were they competent energy wielders? Fact is, Surfer has absorbed the Hulk's gamma radiation. That's significantly different from absorbing Firelord's blasts or absorbing Legacy and his Negabands into his friggin surfboard. I constructed my question carefully, "Have any Lanterns usurped or at least absorbed a competent energy wielder's energies?"

Hal and Sinestro don't have a broken Power Cosmic Siphon Harness in this fight. 😂 And while it's logical to believe that they could use the ring's AI to access the Oan database, I've never seen them do so. It'd be great for Hal to ask his ring's AI for info on how to make a Manhunter battery for when he fights Sinestro Corps members. It never happens though. And the Oan database does not have Dr. Doom's blueprints anyway. Fact is, unless GLs have access to the technology, they can't create a facsimile of it. But if you have proof otherwise, by all means, share it.

No where does it state or show surfer turning into pure energy. A solid hunk of energy isn't what Photon did. And how do we take things word for it? He's a scientist now?Him turning into a walking bomb can mean many things. Hell, he could charge himself with hydrogen and wait until things blow. The scan is unclear. Not at all anything I consider note worthy of him changing into energy. And if you are saying matter->energy, then hal jordan can alter matter with the best of them. Shaggy man anyone? Hell hal turned himself into light once.

I've seen him do similar things before but not very often(and for some reason I'm drawing a blank on where I've seen it right now). It's not his staple the way it is Photon's and he has more efficient tactics at his disposal if he wants to get exotic so it doesn't come up much.

Ok. So he changed his form into a big silver ball instead humanoid. Is that the same altering your energy signature into something else as Photon did? She became the will power energy to usurp it. I can't see surfer doing that. Maybe that is just me. And it took her time to do it.

Surfer's got instances of manipulating both psychic and spiritual energy to his credit, so I really don't see why he'd have too tough a time with the will based energy of GL's if Photon was able to do it. And if the energy type itself allowed Photon to do what she did then it just being able to manipulate that energy type would be enough, it wouldn't be necessary to actually BECOME the energy.

Has anyone else simply copied the energy and manipulated it from the users ring in such a way? And what will does surfer have? He's like an automoton these days. How could he manipulate the energy effectively?
