Delph's League of Champions Season One Discussion Thread

I think this new idea really represents our tourney growth.

We've gone from a poorly cobbled together design, with way too much supposition and way too little evidence, to something much more sophisticated. Now we have an ongoing league system that's successful (so far), and doomsday plans all over the place.

Not that Digi's clip is revolutionary or anything, but it is remarkable, and shows how far we've come.

Hopefully mixed genre will be another step in the right direction.

It may be awesome for those of you who have been doing tourney's for a long time. But to someone like me, with limited resources, and at this very moment, unable to even leave my hospital room, it's going to be impossible to do anything about. I didn't even have much time to prepare becuz of my accident last week. I hope you all did notice my absence and at least made honorable mention. I'm not saying that I won't give it a good go, as I think I came up with some good stuff, but that audio thing is hard for me to over come. I can't listen to that thing line by line to refute. But I can look at a post and refute. Just my two cents.

fangirl might as well forfeit. Digi's got secks on his side. (translation, digi's enthusiastic recording = secks)

Well best of luck to you fangirl. really, I hope you're able to get well and make a go of this thing. But I do have to say that saying you can't effectively counter an audio post isn't really a knock against it as a new implementation in tourneys. It's just a lack of resources. Unfortunate as it is (and I want to face everyone at 100% so I wish you all the best) it doesn't mean others shouldn't use the resources at their disposal.

But really, it's about being sweet. I wasn't trying for a strategic advantage. I was trying to be awesome.

My whole plan is outlined in teh scans as well, so it's not like you have nothing to respond to.

Mixed genre = teh fale!

😛

However. This is exactly my goal. We have an elegant infrastructure in place, and more nuanced preparation and tournaments than anywhere else. I'm proud to have been instrumental in a lot of it. And pushing the bar a tiny bit more with the audio stuff is exactly what I had in mind. I've got more planned, but no big "reveals" like this. But they'll get better as the tourney goes on. Shorter, but better.

...well, provided I get power back at my house ( 😬 ).

Your audio is far more detailed than your post. So it's not like I can quote your audio and then respond to it. I listened to your audio and I was likem, Hmm, I have an answer to that and that and that. But by the time the 15 minute session was over, I had a jumble of stuff to try and refute.

I actually like the innovation. Whatever it takes to get your point across is legal as far as I'm concerned. Be it audio, video, or written. So long as you adhere to the post quota it's fair game. Once we move on to mixed genre it will become more status quo (for those utilizing movie/video game/cartoon characters).

I dunno. Pause it? It's the same button as "Play." It's not really un-overcome-able. Good luck though. I'd like to have a good match, since you have an interesting team.

I think that it's placing an unnecessary burden on your competitors, as you simply can't organize your retorts and quotes with an audio guide. You're a slave to the length and format it was posted in and can't quote it.

Meh... if I were the competitor, I'd just play it on a seperate tab, pause after every point, paraphrase and retort.

Really shouldn't be that difficult.

And there are only a handful of points that are specifically from the audio clip, and not recapped in scans.

I agree with Kandy that is places an unnecessary burden on the competitor. But as you can see, I'm well prepared for a nice fight. I will tuff it out no problem.

What Smurph said. I made it as user-friendly as possible by saying pretty much everything in words and scans, only shortened. So it might take an extra 20 minutes to reply to my first post...is that really so bad? I spent 3 times that doing research for Speedball alone. Tourneys take effort and time.

As for a burden on my competitor, isn't teh point of your posts to put burdens on the competitor, in any format? So as long as I'm trying to make a case he can't refute, why not do it in a epic and sweet format?

Speedball is a nifty lil character isn't he. And the new warriors had two runs. And many cross overs. And I have them all. He's a nifty multitrick pony. I like your robot team. Ridiculous power. Trust me. I'm going to refute. Tomorrow I'll take 5 or 6 hours to do so.

What's the music for Digi's writeup?

Also, Digi really really really sounds like a geek . . .

Which makes my rugged, manly exterior that much more alluring.

😎

The initial music is the intro from Carmina Burana (O Fortuna) by Carl Orff, but as performed by a New Age string quartet with synthesized accompaniment. The later track is an odd rendition of Bach's 3rd Partita for solo violin, played on a loop until I was done talking.

So basically, I should try and make my posts as out of order and confusing as possible to be a burden on my competitors? Somehow that doesn't seem very fair or moral, but it's the equivalent of your audio. Actually the audio is worse since you can at least quote my comments.

What part is confusing? I laid out my plan in a logical manner, you can pause it at will, and it's again outlined in shortened format in the written portion. And since we're in the response/rebuttal portion of the match now, fangirl has plenty to respond to. One post, in the scheme of things (one part of one post, actually, not the entire thing) doesn't amount to much.

Also, you can respond to points without exact quotes. It's really not that hard.

I'm sorry if you don't like it, but I'm trying to be as accomodating as possible, and it's been approved.

You can't easily quote it, and it takes much longer then it does to read. You also have to wait for it to load before you can re-examine a part of the plan, and then have to pinpoint that part of your speech. All in all it's just harder to look deeply into the plan when you can't review it at will.

But that's the point. You can review it at will. Do you need exact quotes when it's all in shortened version in the written part? There's very little in the audio portion that can't be responded to in the written part of my writeup.

Like I said, I'm sorry if you don't like it, but I'm trying to be as accommodating as possible and it's been approved. This will also be my shortest audio writeup by quite a bit, since it takes more time than I can put into each match. It's a small adaptation to have to make, especially when it's one post in matches that will have 10-20 posts in them.

That was the idea. Tourneys deserved to be kicked up a notch.

😉

...which I also anticipated, and it's a fair complaint. Technically speaking, it's a smart way around teh limit, but I wouldn't be that big of a d*ck. You have a good point.

Although, to be completely honest, it doesn't look like we've instituted a writeup length limit. Charlotte's looked well beyond 10K. I personally think we should be allowed as long as is needed to say what we need to. We'd simply be under scout's honor to only say what needs to be said. And I don't remember delph saying anything about a limit, so it may not be an issue at all.

But, to be as fair as I can, I said this earlier and I'll say it again: future writeups will have the audio aspect to them, but it will be greatly diminished. They will be much shorter than this one was, in an accompanying role instead of a feature role. Hopefully that is an acceptable compromise.

But you get the royal treatment since you were my first match. Congrats.

😛

I apologise on making one mammoth of a writeup- it looked "fat" because of scans mostly, though..ones for following rounds would be smaller.
But there's no pre-established limit on the writeup length, as you've said.

I understood Digi's audio clip. I'll still be referring to his actual write up in the post for judging purposes. I really don't see why people are making a big deal out of everything.
