Xavier begins examining the clearing hoping to find something artificial like a door or latch.

As you tread the clearing, the muddy ground becomes firmer beneath your weight and you manage to catch a glint of metal in one of your footprints behind you.

Xavier will examine it.

A corroded metal surface beneath the mud. You will need to clear the mud away to see what it is.

Xavier will do so.

It is tedious as the mud keeps sloshing back into where you just scraped it away from, but eventually you reveal a sort of hatch. It is flat and corroded, with no visible means of entry.

Then perhaps it time Xavier made a visible one.

Lightsaber opening coming up.

Snap-hiss!

Steam rises as mud cakes and dries on the hatch from the intense heat of the lightsaber blade, but it is a quick job and the hatch falls inwards. It clangs loudly after a brief drop into darkness.

Xavier jumps down not caring what is waiting for him.

Down you go! You land heavily at the bottom of the shaft, having jumped in rather than taken the ladder.

Geez, it is dark down here! You can't see a thing.

Xavier will activate his lightsaber hoping it will give him some light to work with.

Not a grand amount, but enough to see that a long corridor stretches out before you.

Xavier will follow hoping to find someway to turn on some light.

As you move down the hallway, you hear a 'beep-beep' sound from close by...

Xavier looks to find the source of the beeping.

You cannot see well in the dark- lightsabers were never seem to do well as flashlights- but you sense danger!

Xavier quickly takes a defensive posture while trying to move away from where he senses danger.

That is when the trip mine goes off, filling the corridor is shrapnel and smoke! A piece of super-heated shrapnel scrapes your leg (as you had not moved away quite fast enough), for 5 damage.

Well that was stupid. Perhaps mister logic you should be a bit more careful

"Point taken," Xavier says.

Does Xavier have some kind of lighting device to better illuminate the area?

You can have a glowrod, yes. But right now your bigger concern is the second sounding 'beep-beep' nearby, and another, and another...
