Yes he has, I apologise, as I was speaking from personal experience only.

I am well aware of the word, it is not exclusively Scottish, at all. In fact, I'm fairly sure it has cockney origins.

I'm not claiming the word as Scottish, I am just saying in Scotland the word may, and probably does, fit into different places from your own colloquial version of English.

Anyway, I think I overreacted to your original comment and was needlessly rash- apologies. I need to stop being on the offensive.

Well, yes, you were rather offensive, needlessly.

I still don't get the "forcing you up there bit" bit, though. What's that supposed to mean?

I'll post the video of Joe Biden's speech as soon as it's up.

This has been very Clinton dominated so far.

Where is the Lt. General's speech, assuming she made one that is- I heard her called and was interested to hear what she was going to say, but it wasn't covered.

U.S political speeches seem so odd, like the audience etc.

Hahaha, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, at all.

I don't know, it just incorporates things that I wouldn't normally associate with politics. It sort of feels like an event organised by Heat magazine.

Our Party Conferences are going the same way though...*flashback to Neil Kinnock's.*

Lt. General Claudia Kennedy?

It's not on the channel that I've been using to get video. I'll see if I can find it.

Once you are elected President, Senator, Governor, Representative, etc, you hold that title forever.
Interesting, I haven't generally seen it being used without being prefaced by "former." It just seems odd in a sentence "President Clinton told people McCain would be another term of President Bush. President Carter echoed these sentiments." or "President Bush and President Bush each started a war in Iraq..."

well, yes, they are commonly referred to as "former", but the fact remains that they do not lose the right to the title. President Clinton, when he goes to an event, still has the option of being greeted with "Hail to the Chief".

Out of curiosity is there anything that bars an ordinary person from hiring a band to play that before they enter a room (beyond looking rather silly)?

I don't think so, no.

The only thing I can think of that would prevent someone from doing that would be the government owning the rights to the song.

"President Bush and President Bush each started a war in Iraq...claiming a grand coalition when the only two fighters were basically USA and UK, attacked because Iraq had weapons that they gave them/didn't have, didn't really start a war because a war requires two sides to fight"
Amirite?
