It really depends on which version of Joker you prefer.
I really enjoyed Ledger's Joker, I always loved the murderous, psychotic version of the Joker. Ledger easily stole the show from Batman, second time I watched it I wanted the other characters to stfu so I could see another Joker scene. And I loved how this Joker was not afraid of a physical confrontation, he would beat your ass. Was also not afraid to die, and was a master planner and schemer.
Hamill is my second fave. Always loved the animated series Joker, he was a killer like Ledger, but also had the prankster edge, and his laugh was legend.
Nicholson's, though not my favorite, did a good job with his role, but I just couldn't take this depiction seriously because he didn't seem to be threatening at all, he was kinda a wuss in terms of confrontations and death. But still overall a great job.

I LOL'ed when I read that 😄
Heath and Nicholson's portrayals are tied at 1st place for me, because I really don't think they can be compared.
And I haven't seen enough of the animated Batman series to rate Luke Skywalker accurately.

Ledger's Joker was the psychotic murderer Joker of today
They all played the Joker they were asked to play very well
At least, that's my take on it...
and a vert good one I might add. 🙂

Jack's Joker is highly overrated. It was good and all, but most of that was Jack being himself. Heath really delved into the character and disappeared into the role, Jack didn't.
You really need to watch Batman 89 again my friend, Jack's preformance was not just Jack being Jack it was spot on to
the way the joker was presented back then
The whole "trying to preserve as much of jack as possible" was in regard of the looks department. so get your head out of Heath's ass ( god rest his soul ) and realise how good a job Jack did back in the day
But your are prolly not old enough to have seen the film when it first came out, so your reference to the Joker is based on the Joker we read about now

Well everyone is entitled to their opinion however I agree that I do hate the total lack of regard given to the previous Batman films and the performers. Yes the Dark Knight is an epic and yes Heath was amazing but I believe that others did a fine job back in the day too. I guess everyone cannot see this or doesn't see it that way though
Heath Ledger's Joker is my personal favorite. Seriously; I smiled at every line of his. Some sort of twisted, weird smile... I personally think that this is the best way to portray the Joker; a homicidal nutcase who likes to screw minds, cause chaos. Him laughing hysterically while taking a fall to his death is, IMO, one of the creepiest scenes in movie villain history. He may just become my favorite villain of all time.
Mark Hamill's is next. I think he's the one who must successfully portrayed the 'prankster' side of the Joker, particularly in Return of the Joker, where he was the only one to truly fully mix the 'comic' and the killer side of the Joker. Plus, it's Luke Skywalker, so knowing he could whip out his lightsaber and WTFpwn his opponents at any time gives him bonus points. 😉
Nicholson's is next. He wasn't particularly threatening nor a very effective fighter, but he still was hysterically funny.
Jack's performance....creepy? 😂
Heath Ledger's Joker was creepy, Darth Vader was creepy, Michael Myers & Jason Vorhees were both creepy, but Jack's Joker was not. He's not on par with Heath's Joker at all for the simple fact that no one even said that Jack disappeared into the role but basically everyone has said Heath disappeared into the role. He portrayed the Joker everyone has always wanted in a movie and a hell of a lot of people are saying he's te best movie villain in movie history, no one ever said that about Jack. I'm just putting this out there for anyone who thinks Jack's Joker is ahead or even in league with Heath's. I have a clue what a great performance is, Jack's Joker was no where near great. Heath had a great performance, Ed Norton had a great performance, Robert Downey Jr. had a great performance, Jack had nothing short of a good performance. He was great in "The Shining" and "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" but not in B('89). Anyone who says so is only doing so in some foolish hope to say he's as good as Ledger, which is a lie.

i just watched the original batman movie. he's definately overrated. he was korny and lame. he was afraid of Batman when he was confronted at the end. Didn't seem like he took the role as seriously as Heath. He also didn't steal the show completely like Ledger did in TDK.
But I guess it's easy to think that Jack was AMAZING when he's put in a mediocore movie like Batman '89..

Yes, it is fair. You're just using that argument and it really makes no sense. Jack was majorly portraying himself, Heath wasn't at all. Heath is better, Jack said so himself, it's fair to compare, just get over all that.
Yes, Ledger was better, but they were two COMPLETELY different Jokers... To compare them would be like comparing Metallica to Ratt, both are good, but they are completely different...
