USH'S STAR WARS GAME- CAMPAIGN II EPISODE IV (RENEGADES)- Battlefield

(No problem! I figure an explanation is needed anyways.)

"Allow me to explain things, then. I'm Xeth Tam. I run my own show out here, and for some time my main goal is bringing down the corporate conspiracy of the Trade Federation and the Techno Union. Ever since that debacle on Naboo I've been working to track down shipments of battle droids that mysteriously went missing. Found one in the possession of a Hutt being sold to the Damagran Confederacy about four years ago. That dead-ended and I got side-tracked... long story... as did Arminium, where a supposedly renegade Techno Union head figure extracted information from a kidnapped scientist about his designs for a lethal targeting computer.

"And now this. The Techno-pirates had been striking from a forward base here on Rekiarius in order to acquire parts to build up a droid army for the Techno Union. They can't test their weapons in the Republic, so they're doing it outside of it, where the law can't touch them. The Union won over the Techno-pirates by cowing them with a deadly new machine called the Battle Variant 50, under the cover of a God-like figure called the Dark Thrael. We're going to destroy it, we're going to destroy the droid army, and we're going to stop Cannes!"

Xeth stops to allow the information to sink in.

"Well, eh, that's a lot of stuff to absorb... any questions?"

I think the only thing lacking from that synopsis is their full motive. Seems a bit extreme just for testing (especially as the majority of the army is relatively conventional, judging by what you know of the parts the Union 'accidentally' lost); only the BV-50 itself is truly new.

"Do you have full proove of what you just told?"

"Let's just say it's a work in progress," Xeth replies.

Do we actually know their full motive, Ush?

And anything on those coordinates?

"Have you seen these weapons or is it all hearsay?"

"The STAPs we rode off on are evidence of it. All assembled from missing parts, most recent being an attack on a starship near Alzarius that was carrying repulsor lift parts. Those parts are perfect for STAPs, and even tanks. And don't even get me started on the BV-50..."

Their motive can be discerned.

Working on the co-ordinates now...

Oh! How silly of me.

Cannes is looking to establish a planetary location outside of the Republic where the battle droids can be manufactured en masse without paying attention to laws restricting such activities.

A-ha! Indeed so.

And the co-ordinates you saw are for Alura. It's one of tha largest industrial planets that is not inside the Republic- a powerful world indeed.

A powerful industrial planet in the Outer Rim? That's uncommon.

It's very rare indeed.

In fact only one thing has stopped Alura becoming a mini-power in its own right- it never unified as a planet.

"They are only evidence if you can link them to these pirates... Otherwise they're just some STEPs that were there, for which a million reasons can be found. If there is decent proof, I am sure we can find a mandate to support our cause."

Why's that? Conflicting interests amongst the locals?

Indeed so.

Jovan does have a point, much as it is one of those points that always gets you irritated at officialdom; no matter how plausible or even how true your comments are, there's no chain of evidence.

The Jedi are, at this point, trying to assess the danger from the Cult of Charaeus and this rumoured new weapons system. Things get a bit dodgy at the point where it seems they are buggering off from the Republic.

On the other hand, things that bugger off might... errr... bugger back.

But ion your mutant third hand, the Jedi can't go around interfering on non-Republlican worlds without evidence- as representatives of the Senate that would be deciding policy for the Senate, which would be very wrong.

That doesn't mean that Xeth necessarily has to concern himself with what the Senate thinks of the situation. He is his own person, he can choose to help Alura fight off Cannes' droids if he wants without the Senate's approval, or the Order's.

He can leave the official help up the Jedi, can't he?

There isn't going to be any official help.

What about Jedi involvement, as far as the bound-to-Republic-service Jedi Knights go?

the problem is that Denz and I are "real" Jedi, we can't just go to an off-Republic world and wave our lightsabres around. I'm not quite sure how the Senate and the planet will deal with renegades, but we can't do anything outside the Republic unless we are backed up by them. "My allegiance is with democracy, with the senate" or something along those lines Obi-Wan yelled in ROTS; we're bound by that.

Jovan, Lance and Vlad can have a legitimate worry about the Cult of Charaeus and its new weapon, and indeed at the behest of the Council Vlad was just involved in a mission which involved going to Charaeus, outside the Republic, and pacifying it.

(For that matter they can have a legitimate worry about what the Union wants to build large armies outside the Republic for!)

But they have no sanction for such action as it stands.

So we're pretty much on our own for now until we can uncover some hard evidence to get the jedi involved?
