Vlad listens and pauses for a moment.
"I think there's enough suspicion for the Jedi to get involved in this. This is getting out of hand. Part of mine and Master Marcus's mission was to also investigate how the Liner destroyed. Obviously, the thing that attacked you Xeth was that machine. That means us Jedi still have unfinished business. I'll see what I can do about it in the Council, thought." replies Vlad.
Alright then! Vlad will contact the Council - If he could, he would want to contact Mace Windu and report to him the situation.
Indeed, you can report in to Windu.
Well, he understands everything you say. But to get involved in Alura's affairs is beyond the remit of the Jedi. That's an intervention in the affairs of a foregin, sovereign state- that's something for the Senate to decide, not the Jedi. And Windu doesn't want to necessarily cast aspersions on the Senate, but he will remind you that even when it was an internal world that got attacked last time, the Senate couldn't get set on a course of action. Palpatine may be trying to change things in that area but he'll never convince the Senate to risk lives and spend money getitng involved in the business of a far away world not even within the Republic.
Even at the very best, the debate would be still going when the invasion was long over. And all this is fairly irrelevant because, much as he himself trusts and believes Xeth, the Senate knows him only as an ex-lawman in private business. There's no evidence on hand.
Well, Windu will thank the Jedi for their work and getting the information they were after; he'd like to thank Vlad for his work on Charaeus and Denz and Jovan for Altamira- it looks like there is going to be some political fallout about that one, but it will be settled on Mandragos. As for Lance, he apologises for interrupting his leave, but he can at least now get back to it.
Indeed, he feels all of the Jedi there deserve a holiday. As of now, you are all on leave.
"I'll expect you back on Coruscant in, say, a month? Go see some sights in the meantime."
"I'm, uh... not entirely sure," Xeth says. "I actually wasn't expecting to be able to keep it, but Cannes wanted us to look as if we died in a terrible ice slide rather than an attack. That new weapon that Cannes made actually removed it with a sweep of a cutting laser..."
Xeth talks to Vlad. "Remember how we found that door sliced open and those men cut in two on the starship at Alzarius? It was that weapon. And that Jedi you were trying to find was vaporized by another weapon that this thing has. Not to mention all the overkill blaster shots. It is loaded with rapid-fire blasters... did I mention the energy shield? And that it hovers?"
Is it possible for Xeth to identify what the hell Cannes strapped to his leg?
Nah, you don't know what the creature is, but by now it has shrivelled up and died around the attached leg.
That leg is still useless however, Xeth, and will be for the whole episode.
The Jedi are not technically obliged. Morally speaking is a different matter though, and of course Vlad, who as a Merit conenction to Windu, knows he was being told to go sort the situation out, unofficially.
Vlad nods. "I didn't think it would be a mobile unit or droid that could have done that... More like some sort of prototype artillery. That's dangerous technology... Chareaus partially fell to it, and other planets will to"
Vlad puts his hands around his neck and slumps down into his chair, smirking.
"Well Xeth, looks like I'll be sticking around with you for a little bit longer..."
