Mostly whim; if you really want to keep one of these guys alive that is fine, unless several of you hit him in the same coup de grace.

Besides Gallador having slightly psychopathic streak, do we need hostages?

Did we see anything in the town to indicate that there are many more deputies that are in the bar?

You haven't had that close a look, but it's safe to assume that with this fight you will become top dogs around here.
