That no doubt put Gallagher in an extremely worried and frantic state. He will run after Zaland, trying to find the protector that is actually an enforcer, something Gallagher cannot quite sit well with.

Did Gallagher know this about his family during the mission to Spiridos?

Yes- but a lot has changed since then. Well, you hope, anyway. It was Galahad's brother- your Uncle- that had been the crme lord of the family, and Zaland had been doing work for him on that basis.

But when you confronted Zaland (I am zipping through this segment for time purposes) he told you that the Rodian was maybe overstating things. It is ture that there is a massive link with the underworld oin Thespia. The problem was that Thespia is used to extreme lixury, but beuing rich because your ancesotes were rich doesn't really work in the Galaxy any more. Many Thespians did indeed turn to crime to continue such opulence, and it is something that has a grip of the pkanet to this day, but it is not universal.

Many of the protectors, in particular, wanted out. Zaland's brother was one of them- and he was trying to convince your sister to do something about it, maybe give testimony against the family. He thinks this must have been got wind of, which is whyt she was targeted. With his brother dead, Zaland now feels the responsibility is his.

"But you cannot tell the Jedi all of this," says Zaland. They'll tear Thespia apart. Some of the families are trying to go straight and leave the past behind them- but there is much the law would find them accountable for."

So that's when yuo realised your position. The family insisted on Jedi to find their daughter as any other form of enforcment would have no chance against such a strong criminal element. But they must have known investigating Jedi would find something about all this. Hence your job- to keep it quiet for them, n behalf of your father...

(I have to applaud you, Ush, my background makes more sense now than it ever did, and I'm the one who wrote it!)

Gallagher will promise Zaland not to tell his Master, so long as Zaland helps him devise a way that they could have uncovered what has happened with Kellan without implicating his family or Thespia in the underworld drug war.

And indeed, Zaland agrees tp work with you- and you become part of the conspiracy of silence against the Jedi...

It seems cold in your room at the Basilica. Bad memories.

Gallagher rouses from his meditations, pulling his white robes tight about him even as the images of Zaland and a younger version of himself shaking hands in agreement to remain quiet on the Thespian criminal matters finish slipping away.

Now returned to the present, Gallagher reaches out with his senses to see if he can feel Sienar near him. He expects to find nothing, the Abbot shielding his mind with the Dark Side, but tries anyways.

He's in the room watching you- ahh!

Oh, creepy. But expected of an evil old man, I guess.

Gallagher sighs heavily. "I was just recalling my hunt for information on Torus. It's where I discovered the truth about my sister's kidnapping and my family's... less-than-wholesome affiliations."

He's not that old!

"Ah yes," says Sienar. "Your family's contacts had a lot to do with distribution. Getting control of the drugs trade was a two front war- I had tyo control the emans of production and the means of distribution. It took a very long time. Though you were so focussed on the issues with your family I suppose you never really paid attention to what drugs were being shipped from that world. So when you heard 'aspidrol' you made no connection to me. And as you never told the Jedi the full story... still, they found out mot of what happened to you eventually, of course. Late in the day. But after much time passing, hard to connect a world like Spiridos to events near Hutt space."

Bah, he acts like one. Must be the fact that he is dying slowly.

"Indeed," Gallagher says. "I had never thought to ask what was being smuggled. It did not seem important at the time. Only my sister's safety... and we both know how that turned out."

Gallagher's eyes flash open toward Sienar and he clenches his fists beneath the long sleeves of his robes.

"Well, I do. I am not sure you quite have it right."

"She is dead," Gallagher says. "That much is very clear, and it was the result of events that trace back to your doing. When did you begin to take interest in smuggling aspidrol, Sienar? What made you choose that as a means of making your criminal domain?"

"Oh, that was simple; my Master Paluzzi had made contacts there. I was simply... improving upon his work. For the money, you see. It;s all about power, Gallagher, I told you that. Power to do what you want, For me. a lot of that involves money."

"Money is very ideal for accumulating power," Gallagher sighs. "As unfortunate as it is, few will turn down a bribe... or a donation, in the case of the Synod."

"The Synod is no way to make money," says Sienar. "That is for other purposes.

"Do you remember exactly what happened to Rundell yet?"

(So, would Jedi like the three of us have known about the Klinge-Faust background? Or is it old, obscure news by now? I've been trying to ponder the Abbot's schemes. We know now that the Drugs are just for the money, but unlike a common Gangster it's not just about living high on the hog. It's the money he needs to operate the big scheme. And the Synod. I'm guessing part of it is just for the cover, the legitamacy, and therefore the shield from 'official' eyes that it provides. I'm thinking it is also good cover for networking with so many senators and business people. It's a way to transfer the money, maybe? I can't yet get to any good ideas what the big point is yet. The Archmandrite position feels liek it's another mean to his end, not the end itself. What more benefit would a high religious position convey? Roan, Jelena, you thoughts?)

Andro seats himseld next to the Lady, and introduces himself with a smile and a polite bow. "Andro Fenris, at your service, ma'am."

You may recall a promise the Council referred to, saying they could not tell you the full details of Gallagher's misison where he met Sienar...

There has been no massive scandal about Thespia, anyway. And of course, they end upo supporting the Rebellion.

-

Meanwhile, such thinking is a good idea- Sienar is kinda passing on vague hints in a metagaming sort of way. So, if we asusme Sienar is laundering the money form the drugs deal, and that the Synod is an excellent place to keep clean money (though as Sienar says, it doesn;t MAKE it), you need to find a vast source of cash apparently owned by the Synod. But as to what the money could be for, and what his position could be for... you still have no idea.

Doing these convos in full will take ages- did you have any particular questions for Mlim?

And shall I assume Jelena just chats generally with the Senator?

(I'll ask her what she thinks of the Synod and the new Archmandrite.)

Ah, that gets you nowhere, and blows one of your convo options, I am afraid. She doesn't care about eirher subject- she thinks the Synod is a triviality in a matter of what can only be Galactic policy.

-

Abbots are simply senior Synod members- the Council of Abbots under the direction of the Archimandrite, dictate Synod polixy.

"But I see what you are doing here," says Sott, in a stern voice. "Asking me about the man you have come here to take down. I have no hesitation in telling you, Jedi, I do noit approve of your mission here. You can inly do harm." He chews some food, slowly.

(Bah, I was hoping to just get her talking and see where I could steer the convo, to avoid pissing her off. Now I'll agree with her position on the Synod and try to get her thoughts on Galctic policy.)

Jelena doesn't want to make it seem like she is interrogating the Senator, and so wants to just direct the coversation towards what the Poverty Commission is trying to achieve during its meeting and why he think Mandragos was a good choice of location to hold the meeting.
