Halo 3 ODST

My guess would be because they gave the pistol it's scope back. You don't really need the Battle Rifle with that headshot machine on-hand.

The BR has more power. I was surprised by the range of the pistol though.

The pistol seemed very weak. Great against grunts, but awful against fully armored brutes.

Well, it was a side arm...

exactly. the halo trilogy had ridiculously overpowered weapons at hand because the character is supposed to be ridiculously overpowered. the ODST on the other hand are supposed to be more of a realistic fighting force - covert and equipped for short sharp missions...

I still prefer the BR as well. It looks cooler if anything else

I got a chance to play a few firefight maps with some friends and its really awesome, 10x better than horde mode from GoW. Although I'm not sure if it can compete with nazi zombies, but I never made it up to set 5 yet so we'll see.

That black eye skull sucks by the way... the one that makes you melee to get stamina back

The BR is a poor man's H1 Pistol. 313

The one that I hated the most was... Tilt? The one that causes enemy shields to deflect bullets. Black Eye didn't bother me too much, because when ever my Stamina was gone, there was always a Grunt nearby that I could get to, I also hung on to the Hammer and used it as a Stamina pack.

I think I played halo 3 on legendary after I completed on easy I think it was, can't remember which level it was but I had to destroy like...3 covenant vehicles so that some ship could land and drop off a tank and a few other vehicles, it's the first time you get to use the tank in halo 3. That level was a total *****, I kept getting my ass handed to me, eventually I played it on all the other different difficulty levels then after picking up a few new skills and some more experience finally beat the sucker 🙂

Thats the one I hate as well. Ive wasted whole clips on them bastards and they wont even flinch. I agree about the Black Eye, grunts are all over the place.

And therein lies the flaw of Halo's dual weapons system, a little pistol counts the same as a missile launcher. If it's going to be significantly weaker than other real weapons, then it should not count against the two weapons you can carry.

Well balance wise it is the equivalent of the missile launcher if used right. it can one hit kill three of the five enemies you fight in the whole game... and has three times the ammo of a sniper rifle and several times the range of an assault rifle.

Would be an interesting point if true. Though it's not.

It can kill the weak enemies easily. But so what? So can every other weapon. It's near useless against an armored Brute, which requires nearly two clips to take down.

The excuse used as for its weakness was "well it's a sidearm", if that's true, then it should be seen as a sidearm and not count as a main weapon - that was my point, right there.

Balance wise it would make sense, and aesthetically it would make sense. A little pistol wouldn't take up the same space as a missile launcher or a machine gun.

Gears of War does this, and it works wonderfully in the game.

you cant kill a sniper jackal from a block away with one shot using an assault rifle or an SMG or any other weapon except for the sniper rifle. =\ on legendary that can be the difference between moving on and death... -_-

i disagree... i gladly drop other weapons for the pistol because no main weapon weapon has it's versatility. obviously it isnt useful in any situation but no weapon is... so it being weak against one type of enemy doesn't really hold any water.

They should've used this on ODST. They "borrowed" horde mode from it they might as well used their weapons options. I love using the pistol for grunts and up close enemies but hated having to drop it to pick up something with more power/range. The GoW setup wouldve been sweet!

That is so true. Especially areas with multiple sniping jackals.

Im the other way around. Compared to other weapons with more power, the pistol is expendable.

Indeed, I'm not saying the pistol didn't have its uses. It did. I'd pick it up if I knew I would be fighting grunts or other unarmored enemies. But it's too much of a niche weapon for my tastes, and I do think that they should have just given it its own slot instead of having it count as a normal weapon.

thats fair enough! ✅

that is a point, but tbh, they didn't have armor where they could store weapons in their anus like master chief did...shame really

2.5 million copies sold.

God ****ing damn it.

I hate it. Incentive for Bungie to keep releasing half-assed games with the Halo name for full price.

if people like them enough to buy them why does it really matter? shrug

there is still halo 1 for those of us who remember what theyre truly capable of. 🙁
