Then Byrne got hold of him, beefed up his powers, gave him some characterization, and essentially created the character as he has been portrayed since.
There's also the issue of you having obviously not read most of the comics you're citing.
Getting manhandled by Colossus and Cannonball?
Neither of those characters have ever manhandled Gladiator. Far from it.
You're not using your powers of reasoning here at all.
Which of the following scenarios would be a bigger blow to your confidence?
1) You punch a professional boxer as hard as you can and he smiles back at you.
2) You punch your four-year-old cousin as hard as you can and he smiles back at you.
Before you rush off and get all acerbic at someone (and start inquiring whether or not they are using their powers of reasoning), it might be best to inquire of them what they meant. That is generally helpful, unless you simply want to engage in some vitriolic chest-thumping, which I am game for by the way.
Anyways, let me first of all state that my logic is still quite intact and fully functional.
With that out of the way, let me also head on to state that I have indeed read those comics (unlike some that you may encounter on the forum, I do own comics and make comments based on that instead of what i was 'told' or a random flurry of scans put up by someone else). However, you seem to have the ability to tell whether or not someone has read something, even when you happen to know nothing of the person.
As for the use of the word 'manhandled' (which I have to assume is one of the reasons why I have to, erm, 'use logic'😉, it was to make a point. Obivously it is not as if they bent him over their respective knees and paddled him ....nope! The main thing was to make touch on the point that Gladiator at times is given challenges by people who should not be giving him challenges (based on some of his appearances).
It was utilized in much the same manner as when I put Jubilee in the following sentence: as in he loses confidence and suddenly Jubilee can take him on.
Now, as far as I know Glad and Jubilee have never met, yet I put it there. Why? To make a point (I am actually surprised that you did not accuse me of sheer stupidity for putting that up).
Now, to the parts of your post that did not include psychic awareness of other posters' logic.
You stated that the problem with Gladiator wasn't as much 'a matter of inconsistency so much as it is the character being created as one thing and turned into an entirely different thing by a later writer.'
Well, I totally agree. Guess what that makes Gladiator ....yep, inconsistent!
Because he is not a real person but a basic comicbook character, he is TOTALLY dependent on what successive writers make of him. One can make him equal to the Living Tribunal, while another can have him submit to the Toad (and just in case someone thinks I am saying he is equal to the LT, or beneath the Toad, I am not. Hopefully no additional posts on logic issues ensue).
Gladiator is inconsistent, and it is because of writers as you correctly state. But he is inconsistent, because of the writers. Don't see what the argument is about.
I have already dealt with the part where you, omnisciently, determine whether I have read the comics or not, so I will move on.
You put forth an analogy about me punching boxers and juvenile cousins. Alright, let's play.
Obviously, me punching my cousin with no effect would faze me far more than punching Tyson in his prime. In the latter case, I can explain it away because he is a pro. But to punch my 4 yr old cousin and getting nada! That would be something different.
And I see how you are applying that against Gladiator, but in my opinion (although I guess I need to implement more logic according to you), the confidence thing as applied to Gladiator is more of an inverse deus ex machina effect (in much the same way that a sun-dip can be used to make Superman's potency grow to sufficient levels for him to do whatever the writer wants him to, or Dr. Strange's magical ability, gladiator's confidence thingimajig is similar but in a mirror-effect sort of way)
Again, that is my opinion. Which I believe I am entitled to, particularly when it comes to fictional characters.
Now, let me heed your advice and go find some logic pills, and maybe order some back issues of Marvel comics with Gladiator on them. I guess the ones I have do not suffice.

I tried debating before and all I got was. Well its a different company so thats why he can't do it. After going through 40 pages of the respect thread I got that.
How annoyed must I have been??
I admit I can be pretty rude but I have been provoked allot in private.

No I think Gladiator would win this battle. I mean the guy is just to powerful for WW. With his confidence level up she is toast.
You are giving an opinion. While I can show Gladiator getting pwned by cannon ball. Wonder Woman will drop Glad's confidence with her first strike, or when she blocks his best punch with her vambraces or shields.
Originally posted by nvrbeenwthagirlNot bloodly likely. This is like a fight against Superman in a way. It would be a good one but WW just wouldnt be able to stand the beating.

Superman is Wonder Woman's freind. She even says she was holding back. Gladiator is not. Wonder Woman would be able to stand the beating? yet she took Superman's punches, heat vision, plummeting into the earth at faster than light speed. Took blast from Zeus, punches from Zoom, punches from oblivion, beat a white martian, punches from captain marvel and you think she would be able to stand the beating? Desaad says that her thresh hold for pain was higher than he'd ever seen and you say she can't stand a beating? You know nothing about the chacter. You are debating a character to which you do not buy her monthy.
