the feeling I got from Luke's fight with the hidden one was that Luke wasn't trying very hard. plain and simple although the entire point of them being there in the first place (to find out more about jacen) was never achieved. they didn't figure out anything.

He wasn't trying to kill the Hidden One; that doesn't have anything to do with the fact that he was thrown across the chamber and pinned to a column by the strength of Force lightning.

You're leaving out the fact that before that happened he'd tripped over a rock after being shot with five doses of elephant tranquilizer after crashing his X-Wing.
