STAR WARS: RETROSPECTION- Decay

So then Con has been using his powers for potentially selfish reasons, even if he is helping a pro-Republican faction fight the bad guys?

Yeah, he thinks he has...he doesn't really care about their fight...he doesn't even know whether Sparnik is "right" or "wrong"...being pro-Republic, is good..but he might be a bad guy anyways...he employs Thieves after all..and he did break his word. And either way, he was just going after the artifact...and Sparnik was just a way to achieve it...

You are positive that Master Raskae would lambast you for what you are up to, especially the massacre at the sensor station, but you sense that siding with Sparnik is better than the alternative of being his enslaved pet. After all, while he did deceive you, he is trying to establish a good and just democracy on Vono'k in place of the anarchy and violence that has overtaken it. You have brought hope to his people just by being here and helping them, as well.

I guess I don't really have much of a choice.

And as long as I am here I can do the work that the Council can't officially do...

Indeed. These people need help if they are going to survive a civil war.

In any case... you just have a feeling that you should be here. An instinct. It may be the will of the Force that you end up here, if Con believes in fate or destiny.

Sparnik calls for your decision later.

I will tell him that I am going to help him and his people. I'd like to tell him about the Spacer I owe money for the flight, maybe he could help me with it.

Sparnik says he will try to work something out with the spacer, and thanks you for choosing to stay with him.

"You will not regret it, Con," Sparnik says. "You will become a legend on Vono'k. I may even offer you a spot in my new government, once we win this war."

"I hope you are right"

And so begins Con's time on Vono'k as a military leader for the Militia of Sparnik. Over time he becomes more dedicated to Sparnik's cause after witnessing atrocities committed by the Grotos, the annihilation of whole villages, needless violence enacted upon those who have nothing to do with either side in the fighting. But the longer Con stays, the most restless he becomes, trapped in fighting a war that he has no reason to be in. Your mission to retrieve the Votive of Light is, for now, abandoned, as Sparnik continues to promise that he will help you retrieve it when the war is over.

Con is trapped in the fighting for nearly three long years. Three years of bloodshed and warfare. Three years of near starvation. Three years away from the Jedi Order, away from the Republic. It is likely that Con begins to step away from his Jedi ways, though he still relies on his powers and his lightsaber to fight the Grotos and slay them for their heinous actions. Much of the time, Con spearheads missions to take out sensor stations or passing Grotos convoys, or to raid enemy bases for supplies and food. Rarely does he return from a mission empty handed.

Con's successes, however, cause Sparnik to become overly daring in some of his attacks, later the war. Victories are made by piling the bodies of Sparnik's militiamen.

Finally, at the end of the third year, Sparnik has overstepped his capabilities. Having cut off Grotos supply routes to the former capital of Vono'k, he decides to launch a battle on the city itself! He hopes to drive the Grotos out and slay their warlord, the villainous General LaKresha. But the battle is a disaster; his misjudges the enemy and his militia is driven back out of the city.

Sparnik orders his militia, or what remains of it, to flee to the mountains, pursued by LaKresha herself and the Grotos. In the mountainous terrain they cannot use their tanks, but they may not need them.

We pick up on Con's story here, in the flight from the battle. As the militia scrambles up the mountainside to escape the Grotos, Sparnik asks Con to stay close to him. Shots fly up the mountainside from Grotos' snipers, but the militiamen stick the cover of the massive rocks, as does Sparnik.

"Hurry!" Sparnik shouts to you, navigating his way through the rocks. "We must beat the Grotos back to the base. It needs to be evacuated, or our people will suffer."

I will hurry to the base then, I suppose.

You, like all the remaining men in the militia, are rushing up the mountainside when the cannonade begins. Powerful lasers streak up the mountain and explode against the rocks, sending rockslides down the mountain to delay your ascent. Some of the beams remove the cover that the militiamen are relying on and even vaporize the men themselves, but everyone at this point is having rocks come tumbling down the mountain at them.

"It's LaKresha!" Sparnik insists.

Unable to move very far without hurting yourself on the tumbling rocks, Con and Sparnik are caught up to by the Grotos soldiers sent to apprehend you.

I will have to fight I suppose...can I get an advantage over them.

Any ideas are appreciated. We aren't going into 'combat time' just yet, so how well you do against the Grotos will be judged by anything you do to fight them.

Well, then, we are above them, right?

Do we have any men, or is it just me and Sparnik?

There can be some men with you. And yes, you're above them.

Alright, maybe we can surprise them by making some of the rocks fall on them, and then with them being all surprised Sparnik's men give me cover while I come down on the Grotos...hard...and do some fancy lasersword stuff.

That could give Sparnik and the rest of our men time to return to base, too, I assume?

The march to the capital took a full day, you are pretty sure there is no way under Vono'k's sun that you will get there before the Grotos catch up with you. You are half of the way there, but this cannon barrage is slowing your men tremendous and you have taken many casualties.

Using the Force, you start a rock slide of your own. A few of the Grotos are crushed by a particularly large boulder and more are hit by a volley of gunfire from the militiamen while trying to avoid the rocks. When you leap down and take your lightsaber to them, they are not prepared for it. Sparnik stays with you, providing covering fire with his pistol and shooting down some of them.

But the Grotos are many and you cannot stay. Soon Sparnik tells you to pull out so that you can continue the retreat, before you are overrun. But you have bought your men time!

As the sun is setting, Con and Sparnik reach the rocky cliffs outside of the base, just ahead of their enemies. The cannon fire has followed you, blasting whopping great chunks out of the cliffside.

"We will have to make our stand," Sparnik says. "We need to buy the people time... maybe take as many of the enemy as we can with us."

He looks down the cliff at the orange-armored men climbing after you.

"I'm sorry, Con," Sparnik says. "This is my fault."

"It's not your fault, Sparnik. Lets focus on the now...I can't let you stay with me...you are too important to the people. Let me organise the stand...I will slow our enemies down." Con said, trying to restore some confidence in his ally, though, looking at the situation he didn't have the best feeling himself. He didn't want to die on here, but he had become attached to the cause...and he knew he was still doing good...so if he can help one last time, he would gladly do though. And, with the force as his ally, he always had the confidence that no situation is hopeless.

"No, I will stand and fight," Sparnik says. "I have crippled this cause of mine, and I will have to build it anew. Besides, our enemy has come to this battle. She who leads the Grotos, LaKresha. She tries to match my arrogance and comes to finish me off. Well, she can try!"

The enemy will have to scale the cliffs in order to reach you. Sparnik lines up his riflemen along an outcropping of rock.

"It will delay them," Sparnik says. "They will have to brave our gunfire if they want to get up here."

I will help shooting then, I can be of assitance I think. Can I shoot and discuss with Sparnik what to do?
