"They're gonna say I'm a risky guy." Well yeah, two years ago no one outside of IL knew he existed. I still don't know a damn thing about him other than the fact that the media and college kids have a hard-on for him.

Maclean's magazine (A conservative publication in Canada [which I no longer subscribe to, as it became very tabloid oriented]), directly after the loss of John Kerry in 2004, ran a cover story about Obama being the next president. Even in 2004, many people were suggesting Obama as a potential running mate for Kerry.

Sure, I agree no experience, but the powers that be in the political class of America knew who he was, and his ascent to power was so predictable that Canadian pundits were predicting it 4 years ago, before, apparently, anyone outside of IL knew about him.

He´s not president yet, could get bumped off by some nutter, blamed on an islamic terrorist and used as a reason to start a war with some country.

hell, the Saudis might do that anyways, to provoke a war in Iran

Just read that N. Korea is willing to persue diplomacy with the Obama Administration.

*knee-jerk*

Of course they are. N.Korea's a country full o' terrorists so they relate.

Russia responded (edit: to the election of Obama) by saying they would put missiles (they didn't specify if they would be nukes) in Eastern Europe.

YouTube video

They threatened to do that because of N.Korea offering diplomatic relations?

i fixed it in an edit, I didn't realize how it sounded as I was writing it

It's a per capita measurement, I believe. We spend more, per person, than any other nation in the world.
Yeah, which makes it worse, really.

Oh... so they're threatened by Obama being elected?

I think they're in the minority, as far as the world outside the US is concerned.

lol, I think they are happy with Obama

prevailing wisdom says that Russians like Democrats because they perceive them to be softer on the use of military force.

end of the day, Russia just wants some love, and they are like the misbehaving child that only wants to be hugged

according to this (the maps especially): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tax_rates_around_the_world

Canadians pay, on average, less corporate and individual tax than Americans

And we have "free" health care.

Which was really my point of clarification. Being a "rich" country, leaving her statement as it was could be slightly misleading.

but now that Obama is in the white house, im sure that will change

lol, I almost want to make a thread about "what could America do if its army had 3/4 of the budget it has now"

What's interesting is we don't spend as much as a function of GDP as other countries. So I guess it's not that bad.

Democrats do tend to cut back some on the military, one of the reasons the Repubs/Cons scream that they want nothing but to bring America to her knees (some blame 9/11 due to Clinton's cuts). But that "cut back" really isn't a considerable percentage. So it stands to reason that Obama will cut back ie "change", but we'll have to see to what level it's done.

We could have better health care, better schools, better roads etc. Unfortunately, that isn't going to happen, there's more money to be made in weapons by the powers that be.

I'm sorry, here, let me clear it up for you:

But [you] still [spend] [the] most [as a function of GDP] of the [all] first world countries.

Okay, I guess that's still hard for you to comprehend, let me try again.

"Even though there are countries in the world, which do spend more on their military when you factor in the relating Gross Domestic Products, the United States of America still spend by far the most on their health care out of all first world nations, even if you factor in the higher Gross Domestic Product the United States of America have."

Welcome.
