I understand that; did you ever stop to consider that playing on his PC and being alone is what really makes him happy and not shooting a duck, catching a fish, being on a boat or farting around with the neighborhood goons?

Well either way you portrayed an immense lack of knowledge about games and gaming culture as it has been in the last years. I think it's quite fair to say that...you just don't "get" it.
Have you ever worked somewhere where they play a radio station or a CD that you hate, but because you still hear it all the time, you know all those songs by heart??

Besides, your interests involve cars, and you've made clear in no uncertain terms, that you feel this is a manly thing to do.I personally stopped being impressed by things going "Vroom!" when I was...well, I was never impressed by it. You are, and that's why it works for you. Would you go to a car show and accuse all of them of being friendless, overly-enthusiastic car nerds? No, so why say it about gamers?
Cars aren't just something I "like"; they're literally how I support my entire existence and pay for this internet I'm using. People pay me to fix or detail their vehicles. So it's not just some nerdy weekend hobby of mine, like you and your games.

If I said "My cousin likes cars, so despite me not giving a shit, I know about the culture and also cars.", you'd be on me like metal to a magnet, telling me that unless I am a part of it, with an interest myself, I will not understand. The same goes for you. I am my father's son, and I am a fan of comics, he knows I am. Yet, if you said to him "What do you know of comics culture?", he wouldn't say anything, because he is smart enough to know that you don't judge that way.

Fail. For that analogy to work you would have to know songs you've never heard simply because you constantly heard songs you don't like. I doubt this has happened to you.

So you know those songs, that doesn't make you an expert on music, does it? Just like maybe you know whatever games your kids play, doesn't mean you're an expert on video games. Just the fact that you imply that all online gaming is just yelling about owning someone shows factually that you don't know what you're talking about.

Or talking, because that happens to. Tell your kids, since apparently they just yell all the time when they're playing.

So hobbies are only not nerdy when you make your living off of them? So you never liked cars before you made your living off of them, then?

Ive read SOME of your video game thread...appears you didnt do the family game night thing or any of the sort when you were a kid.....so you dont understand the importance of games to a kid...yes they want to be alone sometimes...THEIR TIME....but parent to parent...you really should find a game that you both can play.....I play video games with my kid at least a few times a week...during this time..when pause button is hit match completed level finished etc...I learn things that are going on in her life...you are on their level then....they seem to talk....my mother and I connected finally that way...she didnt have games with her family either but she figured out how to connect with me...video games were it...though they were much more simple and less violent then..lol(pac-man space invaders ping pong..lol..(God Bless Her as she is gone now) but my point is dont knock the games unless your kid is prone to mini seizures etc... join in ...like I said I didnt read all your thread so I might be way off in saying all this...I play less games myself as I get older instead I drink and get on KMC 😱 😂 🍺....but my kids a teenager and is most of the time busy doing her own thing so I can get away it..lol..but dont knock the games hun as it is great way to be on their level and connect with them! and as far as that one post....about forgetting about friends and activities could be a bit of depression...via grab the game pad and find out!...u know I like u so Im not bashing....just my ¼ cent worth of input..lol

A real life? thats subjective, even a game is real, what you see on the screen is real, the fact its created by software doesnt make the software not real, their other forms of entertainment, what do you call a real life?
you mean just getting drunk in some disco? or sitting around chatting to people? explain to me your interesting sense of a "real life" since to a certain extent many things are real.
i can sit around and chat to people in world of warcraft....so ime doing exactley what your doing, hell your doing it now by talking on forums, is this forum not real? perhaps the people are figments of your seemingly lacking imagination?
But I was right of what i said before, your asking the wrong question, its not just a "guys" thing, thats like saying mechanics is just a guys thing, ive seen many female mechanics...its like saying computers in general are just for guys and women only break computers...which is, equelly not true.
it would be more true to say its not YOUR type of thing, you would prefer a "real" life 😄 🙄 rather than something..imaginative.

What utter idiocy.
Even if you know all those songs, it doesn't make you an expert in all other songs. And I assume you do like some music, so am I to think that you are saying you just don't like the games your sons playing, but just like with a CD at work you don't like, you will probably find video games out there you like for other reasons. Also, games have an element of interaction CDs don't have, so, even if you watched games 24 hours a day for years, you wouldn't really know everything, or be able to understand what games are about until you also played them for a time. I mean, seriously, you stopped playing around the time Might and Magic 1 came out.
You show an extremely ignorant view of gaming and gamers...I don't know your kids, but maybe they just are that type of obnoxious gamer you seem to stereotype... but those are not all gamers, kinda like you can't say the typicial person that goes out with their friends is the one that drinks too much, sleezily hits on some girls, throws up all over the bar, starts a fight and spends a night in prison...idiots exist everywhere.
Not to forget that there are people making good money off of Video Games, and video gaming consoles. So your last argument again, shows an amazing dumbness.

Why do they, i.e. guys, like them? 😕 😑
Every 2-3 months, I go out and rent a couple of video games if I'm staying at home that weekend. I get pretty pumped about it. So I bring them home and after a couple of hours, I'm bored to tears and passing HGTV on a channel surf.

If you're going to marginalize all I said down to one little issue, all you're doing is showing your strict adherence to your bias against videogames and those that play them.
On that note, "cussing" isn't the only thing that happens, maybe your children spend their time insulting and acting childish to others while playing on-line, but socializing while playing does happen, especially in games which require teamwork.
Originally posted by BackFireThey surely did. We had a lake down the street and once he'd get there he didn't want to leave. It was getting him outta the house and off the games that were the problem.
Did the kids have any interest in that stuff at all?
Yes, murdering small animals was probably great for his developing psyche.it was only target practice..not real animals.
