Favorite/Best Director thread.

Haven't read the entire thread but I'm just gonna assume somebody has already said David Fincher.

Alfred Hitchcock is my favorite. I love the way he uses the camera to set things up. Also, the stories he picked to make into films are great. He is just great at making something suspenseful.

Orson Welles changed m ovies more than any of them

Ahh...I'm not denying his ability, but Citizen Kane is a drag to watch. The opening shots of Touch of Evil though, amazing....

My favourtie director though has to be Chris Nolan. Some may not even like Memento, Insomnia or even Batman begins but i though they were great movies, less so Insomnia, but all were intelligent, humurous and character driven.

Adore all his films, even his remake of Insomnia, good film. But Memento so far is my favourite from the director.

i am utterly astonished that there have been 6 pages of discussion (which i quickly scanned so i could be wrong) and there has been not a single mention of martin scorcese

you lot should be bloody well ashamed of yourselves

Good point. He does have a lot to brag about.

Dammit...I knew there was someone i forgot to mention!

I'll probably want to change my vote down the road because I think there are some great new directors out there, but currently I'd say the best ever is Kubrick.

Like Welles a case could be made for Akira Kurosawa

Apart from Hitchcock and Kurosawa, who have the 31 people who chose 'other' voted for?!?! Gore Verbinski!?!?!?!?!?! Pur-lease...

Kubrick is ahead of that field by a long shot.

I know there are many more important directors but my personal favorite is Kevin Smith.

Scorcese, Tarantino, Kubrick, Romero, Michael Winterbottom, (Ang) Lee, Bryan Singer, Rodriguez, Leone, Cronenburg, Burton.

It's a long list of some directors who are probably the best in their fields

Martin Scorsese, Oliver Stone, Paul Thomas Anderson, Tarantino;
just to name some

fav directors

Have you seen the trailer for Clerks 2???

Stanley Kubrick

Akira Kurosawa is widely regarded as the Godfather of Flimmaking. Why isn't he on the list?

David Lynch for Wild At Heart alone.

Perfect. Lynch is a genius.

Kubrick, Kubrick... Stanley Kubrick! He's the best! Vote for him! Spielberg... Hmm... Yeah! He was good... But only was... Now he knows only how to make money! That's my opinion! Tarantino is good too! But the best director ever was Kubrick! And one thing why Brian De Palma isn't on the list? huh? 😒

Kurosawa is definitely one of the most inspirational he should be on here
