bravo for getting it then...
because i barely understand what the hell is even going on in the story in this one. ermm
i mean theres the back story which i get, colonies are disappearing go find out why, zomg the collectors may have something to do with it, cerberus rebuilt you and you work for them now...
but im about 6 hours into the game and i just feel... lost. or if not lost, detached. thats actually a better word for it. i dont really feel immersed in the universe like i did in the first one.
plus the characters seem a lot more shallow imo then they did in the first one.

That's probably because there is less dialogue for each character than there was in the first one, which IMO is this game's biggest flaw.
yeah thats why... it doesnt even really matter who you bring with you because the people rarely ever talk, and they never talk when youre talking with other NPC's either...
Thats a load of BS. No offence but the characters in ME2 are so much more complex once you get to know them and do their loyalty quests.
their loyalty quests are errands.... they come to you asking for help about something that has to do with their past and then you run through a level killing a bunch of people and then you watch from the sidelines as the person gains his or her closure. youre not really interacting with that character though... its more just shepherd watching from the sidelines and offering advice every once and awhile.
in the first one your characters talked smack frequently as you ran through a level, they gave opinions on your dialogue decisions much more often and actually felt like they were team mates, as opposed to just... slaves. which is what they all totally sound like in this one. everyone kisses your ass all the time in this except for jack... its so annoying. it doesnt matter what choices i make or what i say. its like theylll lick the lint off of my ballsack if tell them to just because im some kind of "hero". its hard to relate to a character when theyre just utterly on your nuts... or completely indifferent to your choices.
so yeah i agree with nemebro. the lack of more dialogue really hurt the characters in this one imo

I have had them argue with my decisions and interact with what is going on dozens of time. But I have beaten the game 4 times, so I've been exposed to them quite a lot.Only thing that really pisses me off is Garrus and his stupid calibrations.
BTW ME2 > ME by a long shot.

Everyone was my ***** and I loved it. I tell them something, and they have to go along with it.
I like it better than them getting pissed off about it and arguing, because I honestly don't care what they have to say as I'm the captain, not them.
Although, yeah, it would have been good if the characters participated more during dialogue with others.
a few things i do like about the game
+ the dialogue within the game though not as frequent as in the first, is awesome. its really colorful and creative, great stuff. it really fleshes out the characters which makes its lack of presence forgivable.
+ female representation! lots of us femmies running around the galaxy in ME, and as crime bosses to boot! 😱
i do end up killing almost all of them though (and theyre all asari)... ermm but there are exceptions! <3 aria even if shes an asari
+ the loyalty missions while relatively short for some people (i completed thanes in about 15 minutes...) do a really good job of establishing the characters and their motivations! ive so far completed mirandas, thanes, grunts, garrus's, and moridans. i really enjoyed the ending to mirandas and thanes and even felt sympathy for them both, garrus's was pretty good, grunts was boring to me but that type of character just doesnt appeal to me...
so yeah thats my feelings on the game so far. i think its getting better as it goes along, as it started pretty weak imo.
edit- also, i just set up the booty call with miranda, so ill bone her first for this playthrough. gonna do tali on my neutral playthrough and jack on my renegade (yay for objectifying women, we're playthings!)
The thing I dislike about this game this most is NOT gaining experience as you kill enemies. You get experience for completeing missions. That's stupid. I hate it. Some players like the reward of replaying levels for more experience and secrets.
I hated that part of the game. It almost ruined it for me...but I got used to the mission based leveling.

I found that in Mass Effect 1, I would often say **** the diplomatic or intimidating approach, and just kill everything, as in outside of dialogue and in combat. 😐
I am an experience whore by nature, killing everything was always the best way to get experience, and level 57 or 58 on your first playthrough does not lie.
By not giving you experience for killing enemies, it actually makes the choice of whether to be a diplomatic goody two shoes douchebag or whether to go the "RAWR SHEPARD SMASH" approaches viable ones. Because they honestly were not to me.
But meh, preferences. It does not really change the game technically either way, since the level cap is lower.

Not really. More traditional, yes, but overall I prefer getting the XP from completeing missions.
One of the funniest moments in ME2 came from having Garrus and Tali on my team while running around in the citadel. Once they met some stairs Garrus asks Tali if she ever missed those conversations they had in the elevators. Tali says no, then Garrus keeps teasing her by saying something like "Aww come on it was great listening to life in the Quarian fleet" She says shut up....and he goes on until she interrupts him with "I have a shotgun!"

I think ironically Jack nets you paragon points for sleeping with her
huh mmm
id heard that theres a paragon way to do it and a renegade way to do it. perhaps i should have saved miranda for the renegade playthrough. that would make sense considering shes pretty much the most renegade women there.
also, i completed jacob "last black man in the galaxy"s loyalty mission in like 10 minutes last night. man hes such a boring, uninteresting character. im disappointed. why are black men in sci-fi always so lame? like lando.
